Benington Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 This may not mean much to those not familiar with UK TV, but a character in a long running comedy series about a group of part time soldiers in World War 2 (Dad's Army) was always saying about his army service in the British Empire "They don't like it up 'em". Just to alter it a bit here in relation to our partners and the subject of household finances : "They don't like it brought up to 'em "!

She did not say "now", did she? She is being very kind, advance warning and all.

frosty (chris) Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 You should have just gone down for a beer and told her you had to think about it.

Yvonne does not like to talk about budgets as the result is always to cut spending and its already cut to the bone (she thinks) I mean she NEEDS new socks, new bras, new dresses, new lacy underwear, new make-up, and a nose ring. And the cost of each item is so cheap, like only 5 bucks.

Strangely, I have had to borrow from her savings a couple of times, so now I am contemplating a reversal of roles. Popular Post chris49 Posted June 22, 2016 Popular Post Posted June 22, 2016 We start on Monday, Gina gets her weekly allowance. I take my weekly pocket money and I hold the balance. I am responsible for every little thing that comes up during the week. As this evening, there's an 18th birthday/debutante party, so not\ food, they will eat over there and bring some home for me. We are on the VIP Guest List. Which means something like, we are targeted for a bigger gift. 500 cash and a few cosmetic items, another 500. No too bad, I paid that and Gina didn't contribute a centavo. But late this afternoon, she starts niggling me (typical mid week scenario), saying "You owe me" with a few reminders about how she put petrol in the motorbike and paid the water delivery guy. Actually I put the petrol in, but she ran around doing things and it's near empty again. It's tough, because I pay absolutely everything, but still end up owing her money. By Friday she will be telling me we have no more food budget. I will counter that by going for a bike ride Saturday and having lunch on the road. It is also noted that we have a bit more cash these days and Gina does not miss that. A woman has a 6th sense which tells them when you have a little extra in your pocket.

Spoiler It is customary in the Philippines for those with more resources to contribute a bigger amount. For weddings, the sponsors are selected because they can be generous in helping to pay for expenses. Typically, it includes the town mayor or some other politician. Many don't show up. They just give the requisite donation. I like the idea of having a V.I.P. list, meaning these are the people expected to give a bigger amount. You know right away your position in society's pecking order. (There has been changes to the forum's format. I am not familiar with "Spoiler.") Edited June 22, 2016 by JJReyes Typo. Added another line.
