I am totally old fashioned, I prefer a waiter.

As for miscalculation on bills in the Philippines, the cashier is the magician.

In many cases the cashier represents the owner as manager if he/she is out. There will be 2 handwritten bills, the real one and the scam one. If the scam is successful after adjustments in the till. The fake bill disappears. replaced by the real one.

Well, I am also old fashioned, and as such, I prefer a waitress... I am just funny that way.

#2. 50+ years ago, it was reported than many men would walk a mile for a camel. Me? I STILL prefer a woman... just call me old fashioned.

I have used those type of machines in some US fast food joints

Yes, they have those in some drive throughs here.  Seems to me it was the Jolibee drive through in Consolacion? where I first saw those in Philippines.  You take the poor quality of sound and add the filipina order takers quality of English and its not easy to order :SugarwareZ-047:

I blame the managers/owners of the restaurants for the "poor service". More often than not, these people running the restaurants put the staff on 6 month contracts and terminate them to avoid paying SSS, Pag Ibid, etc. for tenured employees. So you will often see a cyclic performance of the staff in restaurants.

As the US slowly but surely trudges on to a socialistic state, this video will give some more food for thought https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pq-S557XQU . Now think about what will happen when all of these people in the mainstream restaurants, fast food centers, etc. are put on the street? Oftentimes, people reinvent themselves when put in such situations, but the people who are clamoring for a $15/hour minimum wage do not seem to fit that bill to me.

Following on this thought, "The median hourly wage for a Taxi Driver is $16, as of June 24, 2016"

http://www1.salary.com/Taxi-Driver-hourly-wages.html

That site does not seem to say if that includes their tips, but we all tip cabbies no matter what they make and as to waiters, the ones making big money in the high end places expect the largest tips.

In the "high end places" many pay for their jobs and kick back to their boss"  When in the States I figure 20-25 percent on the bill.  no tips in fast food. 15 percent in diners.

I have two issues with tipping. First, the general should I, shouldn't I, and why issue discussed here already. Second, and even more mind boggling for me, the crazy percentage idea. Senario, you (the reader) and I go to lunch together. It is a fish place, you are excited and get the lobster this or that, I'm not crazy about the menu so I order the chicken strip apetizer. The bill comes, yours is $50 and mine is $8 so you "owe" a $10 tip while only $1.60 for me. WTF, the waiter did the exact same thing at the exact same time for both of us... I tip based on 1)where I am and 2)how much I believe was earned based on time, service and type of establishment.

I also have an issue of my own, that being the entitlement attitude of waiters.  I have had ex wives and daughters who were waitresses and would come home and talk about how someone was a cheap prick because he did not leave a big enough tip or how they totally ignored some guy because they knew he was not a tipper and it serves him right.

On a personal note, I remember leaving $5 on a $100 meal in a fancy restaurant and the 'nose in the air' waiter approached me as I was leaving and purposely said, loudly in front of my friends, "Sir, if that's all you can afford then you need it more than I do" and he gave it back.  Since that time I leave very small tips and let others be manipulated by these kinds of tactics.

The IRS in the US presumes that a server will get a 10% tip. For really bad service I have left the tax on the 10% as tip.

Once the server didn't pick up my order from the kitchen for about 10 minutes and it was barely warm when it got to the table and the server from the next section taking pity on me refilled my drink twice. My server was early to bring the check. I left the tax on 10% on the table and gave $5 to the server of the next section who had brought my refills after I tracked her down as she had gone beyond what was required of her with no real expectation of gain.

a table where there is a gadget similar to an eTablet. It contains the menu. The gadget allows you to order food and drinks directly to the kitchen and bar. While waiting, for an additional $1.99, you can play all kinds of electronic games.

Toronto Airport departures has had I-Pads for years, free wi fi, free games, plus you can order food and drinks. A waitress brings your food and you have a choice to pay online or in cash. No tipping is required.
