i'm not sure about the costs for a return trip but, when i was looking to come to the philippines, i compared costs to fly from buffalo, ny (30 minutes to airport) and toronto (1 1/2 hours away)...  flying from toronto via air canada was a couple hundred $ cheaper than any discount airline out of buffalo...

An American citizen living in Philippines may buy airline tickets in the US while residing in Philippines and fly from Philippines to where ever an back to Philippines.

Dave will contact you shortly to do with agent here.

Its OK.  I just got an email back from Korean Airlines.  They will provide a free hotel room provided I book with them directly, contact their helpline and ask for it, and book it well in advance as they are subject to availability.  As all the reviews on Korean Airlines are positive and as they are asking almost $100 less on that flight than Asiana then I suppose I will book with them tomorrow.  Just gonna sleep on it first.  Not much for rash decisions.

Having flown to and from PI many times, as well as other international destinations, there is never one cheapest airline. Depends on the day. That being said, I agree that Korean Air is just about my fave.

One time when I took them, the first flight was late and I was worried about making my connection at Incheon to Cebu. Not only did they hold the plane a few minutes, they had staff awaiting our arrival to take us to the gate. In my experience their service is consistently excellent.

Airport at Incheon is very nice. The biggest problem I have had with that long layover is not getting bored and spending money

Our most recent trip we flew EVA Air. Also excellent service and the best leg room I have had going to and from the Philippines.

The post regarding different pricing depending on departure point is relevant.  We find the same when flying back to Australia - if it is Australia-Bangkok, it is cheaper than Bkk-Australia.  Can't work that out.

Often the case. When i first moved to Hong Kong in the late '80s flights UK - HK -UK were cheaper than HK - UK - HK. Ten years later when I was traveling frequently between Hong Kong and Beijing HK - PEK - HK was much cheaper than PEK - HK - PEK. Even stranger is a return flight from Beijing to Manila via Hong Kong is often cheaper than a return flight from Beijing to Hong Kong: with the same airline on the same day..

I think these apparent anomollies are the result of the algorithms used by airlines to maximise the revenue from each flight. Balancing low prices to get bums on seats with higher prices providing higher margins.

Passengers from one point of origin may have more choice of destination than passengers from the other. For example if someone from the UK is going on holiday then HK, Bangkok, KL, Manila might all be options. Conversely if someone is flying fom HK to UK on home leave or business the UK could be the only option. The price will depend on how the airline (or its computers) perceives the ratio between passengers with choice and those with limited options.

JMHO

So I booked and paid for the flight and then asked for the free room.  Here is what they said:

Quote

When we checked your reservation, you have purchased your tickets with [N] booking class which is our special discount fare; not an eligible fare type for this service. Therefore, we must regretfully inform you that the request for the complimentary stay cannot be honored on this occasion.

This leads to the question, exactly how 'complimentary' is it when you have to buy the higher priced ticket to get the deal?  Having anticipated this kind of BS, I already have a day-use hotel picked out.  Cost of flight and hotel is cheaper than cost of flight with 'complimentary' room.  Aw well, life goes on but keep it in mind when looking for free hotel rooms.
