earthdome Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Regarding a trip to Baguio and Banaue Rice Terraces. It is a 4-5 hour drive from Manila to Baguio using NLEX and TPLEX. You can get tickets in advance for Victory Liner Deluxe bus from Pasay to Baguio. The deluxe bus is non stop and has a CR, wifi, TV and hostesses. That trip has taken as little as 4 hours 15 minutes. If you are going to Banaue you might as well stop off in Sagada to see the Cliff and Cave stone coffin burials. Baguio to Sagada by private car is 5-6 hours. Then Sagada to Banaue is like 3-4 hours. From Banaue you can get back to Manila faster by taking the road down to the Pan Asian Highway, then take that to Manila. It avoids most of the mountain driving. You could drive from Banaue to Manila in one long day. I would recommend a private car and driver. You will waste to much time waiting on and riding buses otherwise. With private car you could do this route in 4 days. Spend first night in Baguio, second in Sagada, third night in Banaue. Or make it 5 days and spend 2 nights in Sagada.

Thanks, but I'm worried that much driving might tire him. I'll do the easy thing and ask, some people like driving and looking out the windows, seeing stuff, others would rather go for a walk and see a local neighborhood, I honestly don't know what his ideas are on this.

A lot of old timers enjoy window shopping even if they do not feel up to making a purchase. I suggest it only as a stop along the way, not a destination for the 8 day visit. It will give him something to talk about for the rest of his life. I had to laugh at the mental image - hard to imagine but you're right, you never know. Maybe a beer at Burgos Street just for him to see another side of the Philippines.. but probably we'll just have some beers in a restaurant. mogo51 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 If going to take him to Angeles, don't forget the Viagra! Tell him to swallow fast, don't want him with a stiff neck! You are an old devil Dave!
skyskyper Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 8 short days 82 long years Manila, then off to Baguio with a quick dive in Angeles, then hop off to Palawan. Even an 18-year old would lose his boner forever with that itinerary.
skyskyper Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) Eight days is a tad too short... I would rather stick to just one place or two: Bonifacio Global City, world war cemetery (forgot the name), Intramuros, Burgos in Makati, Chinatown/Quiapo, Chinese cemetery. Corregidor would be a nice side trip. Edited July 28, 2016 by skyskyper

So there are 3 trips out, Tagaytay, Corriegidor and Angeles. Leave out Angles there are bars in Manila. That eliminates Palawan and the Rice Terraces, because it takes too much of the 8 days to do that. Banaue, Sagada and the north is a separate trip. As would be Palwan.
afathertobe Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 If it were up to me we'd just do Manila, stay in BGC, visit Intramuras and then to the beach for a few days at Puerto Galera, which can be easily reached within half a day of traveling. I do hope he'll agree, but let's see.
