robert k Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Actually my first response should/could have been the president has excellent eyesight for a man his age. I always thought that if it weren't for unemployable brother in laws, it would be hell trying to fill all the political posts.

Not the same as what they are implying what he said. A for being called a bakla? We would probably use the term "a$$h0le" instead... And why was Duterte upset to begin with? This gentleman bakla basically told the Philippine people not to vote for Duterte - hence Duterte telling the foreign governments to stay out of Filipino politics. I think we all would have problems with this guy if he came to our country and told us how to vote too... The Philippine Press simply loves intrigues. They completely ignore the context thereby twisting the message.

Tukaram (Tim) Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 I cannot tell you what I think of Duterte... the profanity filter here is too strict to let me get my point across... and I would be declared persona non grata ha ha. I think Golberg was completely justified in his comment about candidate Duterte - saying he should have been first in a gang rape is hardly a joking matter, and not something a potential head of state should say.
Reboot Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Just another case of the US meddling in a different country's election. The Obama admin actually spent money in Russia and Israel to do this, which is illegal. Who knows how many other countries have had this happen. Anyway, Kerry is a POS and so is his state department, and it doesn't bother me one bit to see Duterte call them out.

Yes Goldberg is a real piece of work, here's some interesting stories on him. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/southamerica/bolivia/2801579/Bolivia-expels-US-ambassador-Philip-Goldberg.html http://globalnation.inquirer.net/135831/bayan-taunts-us-ambassador-on-mamasapano-expulsion-from-bolivia
Gratefuled Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Well, just because he called him what he did does not mean that the man is gay or otherwise. That's just the way he talks. It's not like Duterte is refined and self disciplined. I predicted that he, Duterte was going to declare martial law and become a dictator. The old phart has nothing to lose except his life. Maybe if he deports American expats, then I won't have to purchase a ticket outta this place. Maybe martial law is what the Philippines needs. The people are not used to being disciplined. The cops and the judges, mayors, government officials, many of them are corrupt. The same with the congress. Those who voted for him might someday soon regret it. I doubt if anyone has the balls to try and impeach him. The fun has just begun.

davewe Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Although I am an American, a moderate liberal, and a fan of Obama (ducking head now), I think insulting American politicians is a fine thing to do and have no problems with it. I doubt that Duterte was actually questioning the Ambassador's sexuality, just insulting him like calling him an SOB. It's also a tradition all over the world for new leaders to take shots at America. It shows they are tough and in the end they know they won't lose our support or cash. My fave tough foreign leader was PM Hugh Grant taking on Pres. Billy Bob Thornton in Love Actually, although he was too classy to call him gay or an SOB (which he was) Edited August 10, 2016 by davewe
i am bob Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I'm sure if Putin started making comments on who Americans should vote for, Americans would be up in arms against him. Duterte calls an American diplomat an SOB for doing the same thing and he's a tyrant... As for the joke? When he said he should have been first, the press every time has omitted that he said he should have been killed first... Go back and listen to the reports when it happened... He clarified his words but you have to listen to the whole uncut recording as the news reporters keep cutting that part out...
