I'll go out on a limb and say "GOOD"

I never have to deal with LTO since I do not own a vehicle. The same with the LTFRB, whatever that is.

Well, that is interesting as the person concerned at the LTO was just recently appointed! He said he was "One of the strictest in the police"

Maybe an early mistake by Duterte, but even if it was at least he has had the courage to remedy it quickly. By contrast Aquino appointed the previous LTO head back in January, but the person he chose was the head of the LTFRB, a sister organisation especially criticised as corrupt, and again in the spotlight now

If you put someone in a job and they don't do what you want, you replace them. Obviously Duterte expected immediate results and was not getting them. The guy probably could have kept his job by firing a few people. I have had dealings with the Cebu LTFRB and if I closed my eyes and threw a pea it would most likely have bounced off at least one person participating in corruption. It just wouldn't have been that hard to show some quick results.

Really the people found to be participating in the corruption need to be fired. You can't just tell them they are caught, need to stop and not do it again because they will be back at it in a week. There needs to be a clean break with the old system of , "don't do it again, wink wink".

Wait and see.

They used to do that in Saudi making such announcements. All employees in such and such organization were fired by Royal Decree.

One week later they are all rehired in different positions after reapplying.

I see your point and I agree that if they are rehired it will do little good. The people fired for corruption need to be barred from working for the government again, maybe forever, maybe for 5 years so any favors you may have done for the people doing the hiring may have been forgotten. Not to mention that if you have a mass firing and those fired can't be rehired, the positions would already be filled when they become eligible again in 5 years.

I am with Chris on this one, I watched the news conference on TV. I think maybe Dueterte had a Trump moment and spoke off the cuff. It was a long, long rambling press conference. I am sure some of the department heads are going to get the axe, but the bright light of day might soften the blanket firing.

What I found more interesting is his holding up his middle finger (or two fingers if your a Brit, dang love the story behind that gesture) to the United Nations. Basically he said, "What have you done? Criticize Me? Screw you, we will just leave and start our own group!" :hystery:

When it comes to appointing competent people to fill a position the "PETER PRINCIPLE" should be applied.

You don't just appoint someone you like and hope he/she does a good job. such is the case when one promotes, hires or appoints family members and/or friends. I think it's called "nepotism". You can almost imagine them salivating at the news.

I look at it this way. There is 100,000,000 people counting on you to do a good job. That being the case, "you are appointed until I find someone better". Employment is at will, there should be no tenure in government, everyone should be striving for excellence, daily. If you do a good job and hang around long enough, you will earn a pension.

I think Duterte is striving for excellence in his own way and that is why people say he is trying to do too much too fast.

According to the paper this morning, this mass firing only applies to P-noy appointees.
