Muslim extremists who support the Islamic State group staged a daring jailbreak in the southern Philippines, freeing 23 detainees in the latest in a series of mass escapes, officials said Sunday.

About 50 heavily armed members of the Maute group raided the local jail in the southern city of Marawi on Mindanao island on Saturday and freed eight comrades who were arrested barely a week ago, police said.

Fifteen other detainees, held for other serious offences, also escaped in the raid, said provincial jail warden Acmad Tabao.

Acmad Tabao, Acmad Tabao, call from Manila on line one and there are two men on a motor bike with no plate outside asking for you.

Why does this surprise anyone?  Those prisoners should have been sent to a prison far from Mindanao.

Guards should be fired and put n prison.

Makes one wonder what good are armed guards. There were armed security guards present at the resort on Samal Island when the Norwegian and Canadian were kidnapped. Not a shot was fired then, not a shot was fired in the prison break. Makes one wonder how good the security guards are that stand around the malls with loaded guns. WIMPS.

To be fair to the mall security guards if they gave me a nice shiny rifle and said stand there and look tough that's what I'd do. And if someone looked like they might be likely to fire a loaded weapon in my direction you'd find me cowering under the stairs with al the others as well. I don't think they get paid enough for actual bravery, not to mention trained to be able to shoot straight..........

Could have been worse, could have woken the guards from their heavenly slumber.

Inside sources (who wish to remain unnamed for fear of retribution ((sound familiar :hystery:)) have suggested that the bandits had inside information! They knew exactly when the guards were having a videoke session :nudie:and caught them all at one time.

Seems like the media stirs up shit when prisoners are broke out of jail and they also get upset when Duterte takes no prisoners.  No pleasing those guys. :morning1:

The outside world just does not realize its still the wild west here.

Yes Dave

A lot of people around the world believe in the holiday programs on TV and don`t see the bad here. So they cannot see good which has happened lately through drastic measures.

I remember another recent report that said about 23 Muslim extremists were killed in and around Abu Sayaf strongholds near Jolo in military operations. This news report here now states 23 Muslim extremists have escaped from jail. Reinforcements or coincidence?
