Gratefuled Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I'm asking just out of curiosity. Are there advantages of holding dual citizenship? What are they? What do you gain and what do you lose? Does one have to pledge allegiance to the Philippines and/or renounce allegiance to their own country? I ask because people have asked me why don't I apply for dual citizenship. No way will I ever pledge allegiance to any other country but USA. I respect our national anthem. JJReyes Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 As far as the United States government is concerned, only your USA citizenship is valid. However, the US government acknowledges other governments accept dual or even multiple citizenship. The example is a Pilipino who legally emigrated to the USA and eventually elects to become a naturalized citizen. Having been born in the Philippines, under the Republic of the Philippines Constitution, there is a way to re-acquire Philippine citizenship without giving up US citizenship. Privileges include land ownership. This probably won't work in your case. You may have to renounce US citizenship if you elect to become a Pilipino.
robert k Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I don't know all the advantages but being able to own land, senior citizens card, I suppose if one had children after becoming a Philippines citizen they would have Philippine citizenship? Probably discounts at various attractions (Twin Lakes) possibly employment opportunities as president and CEO of major corporations?

Jack Peterson Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Will my application for dual citizenship under RA 9225 affect my US citizenship? The Act does not require one to renounce his or her US citizenship. Also, there is no prohibition against dual citizenship in the US.

I still will keep ONLY my US citizenship but wife may have her reasons to become one,( dual citizen), eventually.
robert k Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Some people with money would jump at the chance. They would love to buy a property and develop it. Foreigners have invested tens of millions of dollars to build a resort with casinos and in the end walk away because they could not get permits and they were not citizens so they didn't have the staying power to hang on. The jungle reclaiming their resorts that never opened is eerie. I would like to buy about 10 hectares of jungle that nobody wants and not do a darned thing with it. My great great grandchildren would thank me for it.
