Balikbayan shipping from Tampa/St Pete?

I have a longtime friend in Saint Petersburg who I trust would send a balikbayan box to me - if he knew where to send it. Does anyone know of a good, trusted shipper in the St Pete area? Searches yield stupid results and I don't really trust a shipper without a good referral.

I think member Bruce might know, I will get him to answer if he does.

LBC ships out of Jacksonville Florida and they have various local places that accept their boxes around the state and then send a truck every 2 weeks to pick up the boxes. The guy for Ft. Lauderdale is Rey and his number is 954-257-9125. He may be able to give you information about LBC and if available in your area. Other than that, do a internet search for Philippine food or grocery store in your area and contact them as they may be an agent for different shippers.

A lot of Filipino Grocery stores (Filipino-not "Asian") either have the BB service as a sideline-like we have here in KC or can lead them to a local provider nearby (without having to drive too far).

One in particular he can check with is "Philippine Oriental Store" in Tampa

We regularly ship from the UK and use a company called Forex Cargo and they have always proved reliable. They specialise in Balikbayan box shipping.

Their US arm is called UMAC who have a branch in St Petersburg. Their head office is in Manila with branches wordwide.

if you go to their UK website  www.forexcargouk.com  and click on the 'Branches' header it will give you the US sites. Use the map function and click on the Tampa pin and their contact details will come up.

I'm sorry I did not see this earlier - but thought I would post who I dealt with when I shipped through LBC this past summer if it helps someone else:

Marvin Cortenesa +1 239-297-6782  He was located near Sunset Road and was the rep for LBC there.

18x24x24 balikbayan box $100

18x18x24 box cost 85$ (I bought the double thick HomeDepot boxes for this, cost about $3 each iirc)

Took about 9 weeks to get stuff from my house near Tampa to Laguna.

I am about to go through this in 6 months from Thailand.  Not that it is all that relevant, but what I have been quoted is 'giant' box which would be the size you detail is 300bht ($10) to purchase, then 5000 bht ($150) delivered from Pattaya Thailand to La Union. takes 3 weeks.  I cannot work out how they arrive at the prices.  Maybe something to do with volume, not great from Thailand/Philippines but by the way the authorities are operating here, it is forever increasing!

Maybe next time I go to Thailand I will send myself on back here full of goodies.
