Dave Hounddriver Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 http://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-philippines-idUSKCN12K0AS This is a serious change from the status quo. USA is out. China is in. Duterte sends message that: "I've realigned myself in your ideological flow and maybe I will also go to Russia to talk to (President Vladimir) Putin and tell him that there are three of us against the world - China, Philippines and Russia. It's the only way," Duterte told his Beijing audience. Comments?

Happyhorn52 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Tell Duterte to take a look at Cuba and tell us how that worked out.
Popular Post BrettGC Posted October 20, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2016 I can't see how this would make any difference to any expats lives unless they changed any laws directly related to it. He's never said this is the case and his history in Davao is proof of this. Just because he's aligning himself with the soon to be biggest economy in the world does not mean it's the end of the world for expats. So he's anti-American government foreign policy and pro-China; it's not the end of the world from where I'm sitting. I'm indifferent as long as it doesn't affect how I live when I'm there.
Happyhorn52 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) This only impacts US expats as the average American doesn't have a clue where the Philippines is. Can anyone tell me what the US gets from the Philippines? Plenty of beaches in California and Florida! Popular Post BrettGC Posted October 20, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) Most of my expat friends in PH are there because they're over the parochial, patriotic, nationalistic garbage. They just want to have a life where they care about the things that matter. That applies to my mates in Thailand, Indo-China, Malaysia, Indonesia etc as well. As previously stated, unless they change the laws as to how we live there why would we give a shit about how it pans out on a world scale? Reboot Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Duterte is talking about making US visitors get a visa. He complained that Filipinos must to visit the US, and he was once questioned when he wanted to visit a girlfriend in the US, so fair is fair in his words.
