Popular Post Reboot Posted October 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) So I've noticed a big difference between the PH and the US. Is it a difference in IQ? You judge! The kids here working cashier seem to have no trouble working out your change using just a piece of paper or their heads. Quick at it too. Try getting a young kid in the US to do that without a computer or calculator telling them how much to give you. I've had to tell Millenials how to read an old school watch! "Long hand points to minute, short hand to hours." Parents seem to take education more seriously here. And they seem to be really clever problem solvers. And they all speak more than one language. Try to find that in the US. Must be the schooling and life experience. In the smallest villages, you see the kids dressed sharply in their clean school uniforms. They don't look like a bunch of thugs and such as in some parts of the USA. Just something that came to my mind after some recent pessimistic comments arising from the nether realms of butthurt. For that, I offer a moist towelette. Edited October 25, 2016 by Reboot
Popular Post robert k Posted October 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2016 I know a young lady whose parents are poor. Her future employer sent her to Catholic boarding school where she was never allowed to play until she had gotten an A in her studies. Not passed her studies but got an A. She now works for her benefactors who are a married couple of doctors in Quezon city Manila. She does accounting, manages their properties, human resources and handles payroll for the couples employees everywhere. Daughter of ordinary rice farmers.
Popular Post Hey Steve Posted October 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2016 In total support for your post, Reboot and hopefully to add....I for one would feel embarrassed to judge one's mental abilities simply by their lot in life which (as with me) is by chance and not by choice. Who are we to sit in our ivory towers and ridicule and criticize someone that may well have been a doctor rather than an umbrella repair man simply based on the land the hospital was on when he took his first breath. I respect the labor and all the creative means these people (that for the most part show us Westerners basic respect) have in how they carve out their living. I think more personally than globally and don't allow the latter to cloud my view of this country and it's people.

Popular Post Bruce Posted October 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2016 All environment and the need to adapt or be left behind. With progress, there is a gain and benefit in mastering a new technology, but there is also something lost. A prime example is driving with a GPS. Sure you are smart enough to lean how to use it and benefit from it. But in a few years you will be lost without it and wonder how the world ever got by without one! Also supporting environment over IQ arguments, is that Europeans have an average IQ of 100 and Asians an average of 105, sub Saharan Africa averages out at 75. In the 1st world, 74 is considered 'retarded'. Obviously those Africans have managed to form a society and have laws and forms of money and medicine and more. So 'retarded' they are not. The issue is environment and lack of stimulation beyond a certain level and lack of climate adversarial issues. The warmer the climate, the less need for adaption and migration and then more adaption. Those who did migrate, for whatever cause, adapted as their stimulation required it, and then their children and down the line tested within the IQ range of their new home.

My view about higher IQ does not necessarily mean higher intelligence. My yardstick is basically logical common sense. Basis knowledge and skills such arithmetic, reading and being able to communicate in your own language should be enough to become productive member of society. On the other hand, we have intelligent high powered lawyers, politicians, CEO's (new 3 letter word), church officials, academics and political correct talking heads who can really mess up a whole nation. I'm still shaking my head, numbed from all their so called expert opinions and policies. Again, most of their BS is nothing more than a pitcher full of warm spit. One thing I must point out however, that many of the younger Filipinos are malnourished. Meaning brain development is questionable throughout their lifetime. Respectfully Jake PS -- here's the new and improved ointment by Dave HornDog: Spot on Jake. IMHO IQ is a measure of the ability to score well in IQ tests, and very little else. When I ran management training seminars we would stress the importance of EQ (emotional quotient) and attitude in successful management. I think Filipinos would tend to score quite highly for EQ and attitude. And before posters come up with numerous examples of poor service and shoddy workmanship I would suggest that attitude is both intrinsic (something inherent in the person themself) and extrinsic (dependent on the environment). When Filipinos work overseas the intrinsic attitude comes out. An anecdotal example of this is the glowing terms in which the mayor of Christchurch spoke of the Filipino workers who played a major part in rebuilding that city after the earthquake. JMHO ??? chris49 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Point counterpoint. IQ is hard to measure if it's not backed by basic education. I have not found the Filipinos to be lacking in IQ. But there are deficiencies in the education system. And deficiencies in life experience. Gina 5 years ago would have had no idea how to go into a bank and do a simple transaction. Or use an ATM card. She picked up after my instruction but in handling larger amounts of money she still has a weakness. She does better with smaller amounts. She still doesn't have the experience in handling larger amounts. The family next door. Auntie and her 5 kids. Two are college graduates. A. Rxxx has 5 kids under 10 years old. Her husband is a rice farmer. Birth control is available at the Barangay Health Center. It is not my business to ask her why she doesn't use it. B Lxxxxx. Sister in Law of above. Has 5 kids the last few by Ceasarian. She's high risk and was offered a tubal ligation. She refused "trying for a girl" after 4 boys. She's a college graduate employed in local government. Her husband is a graduate but unemployed. C. Lxxx. Sister of A. Has an illegitimate child with no known father. Unemployed. D. Jxx. Sister in Law of A and C. 2 children one given out for adoption to a childless relative. Has a part time job. Husband is unemployed. That's 12 kids in the household of the grandparents. Themselves poor farmers. So firstly what chance do these kids have of even being sent to school through HS. And secondly how would you even measure IQ if it's against similar kids who might be HS grads or even college level. You might get one kid now and then to pull through as Robert K has pointed out. But the rest will surely fall by the wayside.

I was reading your post but had not reached this picture. My daughter woke up and was talking to mommy, and I asked her how her puwet was. Last night she slid off the bed fast and jammed her butt right on the corner of the side table. She hit it really hard and it really caused a big bruise. So I scrolled down and saw your cream! Send some please!
