Kuya John Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 News today that Canada has finally signed a trade agreement with European Union. It has taken seven years to bring to completion, but is this a slap in the face for UK? Has Brexit forced the EEC to search further afield or has this been yet another cover up by the "Leave Campaign" Talk of new world trade deals for UK is meaningless if negotiations will take this long! It's looking more like being up a creek with no paddle.
robert k Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Sounds like the EU finally got desperate enough to agree to whatever Canada wanted. The EU is on it's way out. I'm surprised Canada agreed to join.

I think it would be more a slap in the face to the EU if the UK went to Canada and said: "That trade deal sounded good, how about giving us the same deal and we'll sign it this month because we don't need no stinkin' 7 years to talk to the French speaking Belgians."
Snowy79 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 The fact that it took the EU so long to get the deal done pretty much sums up how useless the EU is. Imagine getting 28 people to agree to something before it gets the go ahead. The EU is like Religion. It pretends to do things in the interest of everyone but if you don't follow their rules they'll punish you. There's more and more positive things coming out in the UK about Brexit as the media are struggling to remain negative in view of our economy increasing. The only negative so far has been the value of the pound which affects imports. Exports are booming and the UK tourist industry is reporting the best set of results in over 40yrs.
expatuk2014 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I Honestly think that the UK is in a position now to leave the EU ASAP ! no need to make a trade deal with them as there is a big wide world out there ! as soon as the UK gets its act together and actually does sign the leave paperwork and then in stead of importing Mercedes-Bmws-Citreons-Peugeots etc etc And instead buying Lexus,s and Cadillacs and Honda cars etc etc the EU will be begging the UK to do trade deals !!
Snowy79 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 We are still fighting the media though. They keep rolling out experts in doom who quote false facts but as they are so called experts people believe them. I watched a Professor of economics from Oxford University quote as fact that it took Switzerland 15yrs to do a trade deal with China yet China got immediate access to the Swiss market. She argued that it was obvious that a major trade block would set the rules against a small nation if that small nation wanted to trade with them. A quick bit of research showed she was lying through her teeth and is funded by the EU. It took only two years which is faster than any EU trade deal and both parties started trading immediately with zero tariffs and every year both China and Switzerland add items to the trade agreement.
Kuya John Posted October 31, 2016 Author Posted October 31, 2016 Like your positive thinking Snowy 79 Strange as it is, Scotland having voted to remain in the EU and your first minister threatening a second vote on independence if she doesn't agree with the terms for the exit. Best to leave religion aside......"Everyone is free to choose whether they pay religion any regard, but to neglect compassion is a mistake because it is the source of our own well being" ....Dalai Lama XIV

Exactly right, Britain has felt the pinch of Brexit but it has mostly been business as usual for the EU. When all those cars start filling parking lots in Germany and France there will serious trade talks.

What I do not understand is the 'negotiations' and long delays in actually 'getting out' and in the mean time, the UK is still paying millions to the EU... One of the more compelling videos before the vote to me was the old fisherman, commenting on the ban on UK fishermen actually fishing in their own traditional waters and having to watch foreign fishing vessels fish all they want. I read reports a week or so ago that the Canada representative actually walked out of the (hate the term) negotiations. Perhaps that is what forced the EU back into reality and Canada got what they wanted.

It was a British vote of which the majority were in favour of exiting. Nor can the sainted Nicola call a second referendum on Scottish independence, it's not within her powers. Don't worry about religion, they've now invented a new one for the non-religious, it's called "Man-Made Climate Change". Both deserve all the disrespect they can get.
