Happyhorn52 Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte congratulated Donald Trump on his election win and said on Wednesday he now wishes to stop quarrelling with the United States, recalling his anger at the Obama administration for criticising him. The maverick leader, dubbed "Trump of the East" for his unrestrained rants and occasional lewd remarks, has repeatedly hit out at Washington in recent months, threatening to cut defence pacts and end military joint drills. "I would like to congratulate Mr. Donald Trump. Long live," Duterte said in a speech to the Filipino community during a visit to Malaysia. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-reaction-philippines-idUSKBN13412N Edited November 10, 2016 by Happyhorn52

Happyhorn52 Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 I think he's using this as an opportunity to save face and cut his losses.

I tend to agree with this thought and I think it is very positive for Us/Philippine relations. I have said previously that Philippine's following an independent foreign policy is not a bad thing. Maintaining solid relations with US is beneficial for both countries. I doubt you will see Trump lecturing D30 and others on how to behave or what to say - that is a good thing.

Hillary would have called him deplorable, as she even calls people whose vote she needs, imagine what she would call someone she doesn't care about at all? I think Duterte would have had some choice words for her. Let me add that Hillary was running on the fact that she would carry on Obama's policies. Have you not heard what he said to/and about his own VP and the way he talks about Mercal of Germany. NO! I think he is one of those the only believes in Male Supremacy But it matters not, as he wont have to deal with her. Will he?
