The benefits of beer

Some people don`t drink some people say beer is bad for you.

I would like to end the myth that beer is bad for you with this short story.

I was at the corner shop yesterday having a few beers.I was watching all the people travelling to the fiesta downtown.A lot of young children carrying instruments and dressed up for the parade.

Well then it starts to poor with rain and my first thoughts were those poor people have gotten dressed up and now it`s going to p on their parade.

I had had the amount of beer I wanted but it was raining very hard so I had a dilemma. Do I buy an umbrella or do I get another couple of beers and wait.I chose the second and as I finished the second beer, the weather broke and I could walk home and not get soaked to the skin.

So I am using this story as irrefutable proof that beer is good for you.

During the medieval period, water supplies were contaminated with fecal matter and unfit to drink. The replacement was beer and the monastic orders, especially the Benedictines, gained fame as master brewers. They brewed beer drank by men, women and children. The monks themselves received a guaranteed daily ration of four liters. During the Lenten period, the rations doubled to eight liters because the nutrition from beer was needed due to the fasting. 

The alcohol content for strong beer could be as high as 10-12%. Weak beer had a very low alcohol content -- about 2%. Monks worked to improve their recipes. What we have today is a direct result of their hard work.

Interesting footnote. During the Colonial period in America, a new town could not receive a charter until there was at least one "Public House" or brewery. Water was suspect and should be avoided. Unless there was a Public House, the new community was considered unsanitary.

We,the Irish would have ruled the world if they never discovered beer.
