AlwaysRt Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I have been talking to a fellow expat who said he is too nervous to leave the country, until leaving permanently, because he has heard some guys also holding a permanent 13A Visa had their passport stamped as tourist when coming back and had to start the 13A application over again from the very beginning. Has anyone heard of this happening? How could it, wouldn't the BI computer, all your paperwork, and 5yr ACR card superseded the entry stamp error? Wouldn't they update/correct your passport? Dave Hounddriver Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I have heard it happening during the application process and I would certainly phone the BI and ask about it if I was on the 1 year probationary, but after having the permanant married visa I would be unconcerned. Tukaram (Tim) Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 A friend of mine said it happened to him, but after talking to the expat further found out he left during his probationary year... and let it expire while gone. So yes, he had to start over. There should be no problem on a permanent 13a - other than staying out of country too long. The re-entry permit is a single use permit and expires after one year. If you stay gone too long you can lose the 13a. I suppose theoretically you might leave somehow without getting the re-entry permit? That might cause an issue. But if you know and follow the rules there should be no problem.
OnMyWay Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Hmmm... This has me a bit concerned. Are there any official details available? I was considering getting the 13A probationary soon. Then I will leave the country for a month next May. Should I be concerned?

I would wait until you come back for the 13a just to be on the safe side.
OnMyWay Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I sent a message to BI on their FB page, so I will let you know what they say there.
