Popular Post Queenie O. Posted December 5, 2016 Popular Post Posted December 5, 2016 Along with RBM's recent medical challenges I thought on how to find a doctor/specialist who is kind and competent, I thought I'd ask any forum members from the Cebu area if they had any personal suggestions from their experience? My husband and I consider ourselves to be pretty healthy up to now, with no ongoing health conditions, past surgeries or medications. That being said, since moving here we haven't really looked for a go- to doctor that we could see if need be, or as a contact/resource in an emergency. Other than an occasional treatment for a sinus infection or an anti tetanus shot at a walk in emergency room clinic near the city, we've not actively sought out a regular doctor. I think that for the future it would be wise to have a doctor, and was hopeful for any input on any doctors or specialists that others' might have sought out and had a good result with in the Cebu area. It seems that members here are a sensible lot, and I'd really appreciate any honest feedback that members in the Cebu area could give. Looking for a good doctor is not always easy in any country, and here it seems even more overwhelming for me as an expat. Not looking for any guarantees of course, just some possible suggestions to consider. Thanks, Queenie
Gratefuled Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Good luck in your search for a good competent family physician. However, I can suggest something for you. You can get a copy of your medical records from your doctor back home. I did this. It cost me $43 to have them send my all of my medical history. It was sent to my home address back in California. My doctor here in Davao now has it all. I still have my doctor back home since my future here is uncertain. They both know the results of my periodic physicals and Rx medication. It helps to have a 2nd opinion on health matters. Again, GOOD LUCK.
RBM Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Excellent post and let's hope some worthwhile suggestions come up. Few years since I lived in Cebu and the occasional time in need of a doctor was not impressed. Always end up checking with Google and some advice received was just way out of line.
stevewool Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Great post. Something like this many leave to the last minute or until we need one straight away. Then it could be to late
davewe Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 (edited) I'm 63 and while in very good health I feel I am at the age where having some kind of primary physician is important wherever I live even if it's only for an annual physical. One thing to consider even in the US, with its best Healthcare System in the World (joke lang), is finding a MD with whom you are on the same page. It's not enough for the doctor to just be competent or available, you have to make sure you are a good fit. I know myself and know that the type of doctor who tells me what to do without my input definitely is not a good fit. I've had to drop a couple of primary physicians over the years for this reason. So while I don't have a recommendation in Cebu, I would encourge you to interview a couple doctors and find one you feel good about. That is absolutely what I am going to do when I move to PI next year. Edited December 6, 2016 by davewe
RBM Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 like poi t outAlthough it's been mentioned by mods it's not appropriate to comment negativity on various doctors. I would like to mention myself and for sure others would happily relate our experiences via PM if one was received.
