Jack Peterson Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Just because I was at home puppy sitting I thought Lets see what happened in a year gone Bye, I chose 1970 at random but it was strange the memories it brought Back, There were things happening other than outright war and carnage so have a look at the link and see what you remember, Of course some things led to problems as they do Today, So bad news is not something new but a lot of things that happened in 1970,had a bearing on 2017 http://www.onthisday.com/date/1970

The obviously you have not read the Whole thing or your History needs a little updating which is why I Started the Topic but just for Arguments sake, Rhodesia is kicking off again just after the new year. I do hope you will not turn this into an argumentative Topic

A FB friend posts some "what happened today" posts and now I wonder if that is where he gets them. January 23rd, 1970, an atomic bomb was exploded at a test site in Nevada. My dad worked for the oil tool company that drilled the holes for those tests, and in around '66 he had taken me out there, near Tonapah. I remember driving over the big edge of a crater from a previous test. Perhaps that visit is why I glow in the dark? 1970, I was a freshman in HS and my sister and brother-in-law were seniors. Like most that age, we were very much against the Vietnam war. My sister and BIL were involved in protests and I remember that many teachers were as well. That era shaped the lives of my sis and BIL. They have never changed or adapted their politics, so you can guess the state they have been in recently. I changed and became more fiscally conservative over the years. This all reminds me what a powerful influence teachers can have. My sis and BIL are driven to this day by the influence of some their HS and college teachers. I had a college economics teacher who changed my direction. I was broke and getting unemployment, but the way he explained economics rang a bell with me, and to this day I am convinced that the government giving things to people who are not really in need is the wrong way to go. I turned things around that year (about '83) and never looked back. Sorry, drifted OT a bit but that is a fun web site to reminiscence with!
Queenie O. Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Seems like a lot happened in the world that year Jack. As far as some people people remembering where they were or what they were doing on a given date or even year, I'm always rather amazed that they can remember such things! I can remember milestones or feelings that I might of had at a given time, but dates and years just escape me oftentimes. I don't think it's just this tropical clime...

Not at all, I am Glad that some are or will enjoy this. It is a Funny old Life but Thank God ( or whatever you believe in) we have memories that maybe can Guide us in the right Direction.
