As a medicine, it is taken by mouth as a supplement or given by IV or as a shot. Citicoline is used for Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, head trauma, cerebrovascular disease such as stroke, age-related memory loss, Parkinson's disease, attention deficit-hyperactive disorder (ADHD), and glaucoma. Citicoline was originally developed in Japan for stroke. It was later introduced as a prescription drug in many European countries. In these countries it is now frequently prescribed for thinking problems related to circulation problems in the brain. In the US, citicoline is marketed as a dietary supplement. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1090-citicoline.aspx?activeingredientid=1090

mogo51 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I do not know a lot about 'strokes' other than my father had 3 or 4 of them in his time. He lived to 93 and died of pneumonia and worked until his late 80's. As others have said here, you may have had a 'warning' just take it easy and as Jack says, 'don't panic or stress'.

Maybe it was because I could still walk. Or perhaps I still felt in control because I could walk and at least manage to scrawl words with my left hand. True it looked like a kindergarten student with poor motor skills learning to write but I could at least communicate. When it happened, I could not speak and my wife did not know what was happening. I pantomimed writing and she got me a pen. There was a newspaper on the table and I wrote STROKE in large sloppy letter. This morning I saw the note and had to laugh out loud, it says STOKE. Crap, always was a poor at spelling but that is ridiculous. Going to Cebu Doctors Hospital on Tuesday to see a specialist and get checked out. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and advice.

I also don't know as much as I should. My father had two strokes, one in 1993 caused by plaque released by a surgeon during a heart valve replacement with a titanium valve, the other was caused by change in dose of medication to keep it from happening again in 2009 which he did not recover from. I have had "3 to 5" mini strokes according to the doctors in the US that reviewed my head scans. In my case I get headaches and my arm shakes sometimes, noticeably but not wildly or anything. Damn, I forgot where I was going with this, oh well, now you know why. Oh, I remember. While serous strokes are not always debilitating. In my case sometimes irritating, in my father's case the first time I had to teach him how to read, tell time etc again but he went from child like to 95% in about a month. Like me, only people extremely close to him before it happened could tell something was different but not what, people met after don't think anything is wrong. Hang in there, keep your spirits up.

Often the lowering of cholesterol becomes more of a battle between the physician's arrogant demands that it bow to him, and the body's own ability to produce cholesterol and trying to maintain that 'high' level that medical science today does not understand. So the patient is subjected to multiple drugs in an attempt to get the body to do what the physician wants, not what the body wants. High cholesterol is BAD simply because physicians are taught that it is bad... by drug companies that make and sell the 'LIFE LONG treatment'. For those who refuse treatment and live long lives, it is easily explained away that they just got lucky. High cholesterol is individualized and we are now finding out that 'bad' may not be so bad after all.
