Some are quite common now, even in Phils.  Arthroscopic surgery on common knee injuries is one.  In and out same day most of the time.  I had mine in the U.S. years ago but I talked to a sports doc here who said it is the same here now.

Yes I can understand this but as I said, it is more I am sure on the specialist side rather than what the normal person will visit the Hospital for ie Flu asthma and such Here, High blood is a common thing now I doubt these things are covered, I remember that sonjack told us that his daughter had to be Inpatient for 3/4 days before he could avail for pneumonia, do you see my point?

Yes, I understand.  Generally speaking, Philhealth is considered most effective for in-patient.

Funny you mentioned the Sonjack story because I recently found out why Philhealth requires 3 nights for pneumonia.  My daughter had to go in for it and my wife was miserable taking care of her in the hospital, so we were think about try to leave early.  We had a good nurse who explained that Philhealth won't pay if you don't get the full treatment, which is minimum 3 nights.  Makes sense.

Yet another way to extract more money from us foreigners. It's outrageous the rate increase but its the government so no one should be surprised...

Why do you think a goverment that you or I have never paid tax to should cover our medical expenses ? The goverment can hardly support their own people's medical needs.

In the UK non eu nationals have to wait a certain amount of time before they are covered.Even 17k for PH is worth it.

Any updates or actual experiences to report?

I went to Phillhealth a few weeks ago and was told in no uncertain terms that if you are on an existing policy as a husband of a Filipina then you are covered.

The other half of that question is "Will I be covered once the policy needs to be renewed?" Which from reading the information from Philhealth it seems the answer will be "No, at that point you need to get your own policy."

When is a policy renewed?  I thought as long as you pay the premiums there is no need to renew anything?

For example, when the price hike hit I went to Philhealth and payed the maximum 3 years in advance. At that time my policy will be renewed at the (much) higher rate. I believe they work on an annual basis but it is another good question for Philhealth.

Ok, you are describing a different scenario.  Sonjack, like me, is on his wife's policy as a dependent.  As long as our wive's keep the premiums paid, there should be no change for us.

You might get lucky with yours if they consider you as "grandfathered" in as a member of Philhealth before the foreigner rate hike.  Good luck!

In your scenario the new policy is foreigners are no longer authorized to be added as a dependent and must get their own policy. For me it is a matter of increased premiums, for you it could be you find yourself not covered at all come your renewal date. Need to as Philhealth when your wife's renewal date is and if you can remain on her policy after that. The information released last year said increased premiums at renewal and foreigners no longer covered as a spouse.
