OnMyWay Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Finally, we are getting a Toyota dealer! Our Ford and Mitsubishi dealers are run by the same outfit, and are unreliable, at best. Toyota has a big banner "Rising soon", on a big lot right where SCTEX / TIPO dumps onto Rizal, for those of you who know the area. On a side note, I do not remember the new auto tax proposals being discussed on the forum. For those of you considering buying new, this might influence your "when to buy" decision. Here is a good article about the possible impact on pricing. http://www.autoindustriya.com/features/the-taxing-exercise-of-excise.html
robert k Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Good that you are getting a Toyota dealership. The link was interesting. Looks like I would be exempted with a single cab FB body.
earthdome Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 This could trigger a large upward spike in car sales just before the new tax is implemented. Then a very slow market in the first 6-12 months after.
Happyhorn52 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 We could also see a spike in scooter sales and a decline in auto sales.

Happyhorn52 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Can an expat finance a car in the Philippines? If so it may be worth it to buy now and avoid the tax increase.

If you finance through the dealer they will want a filipino co-signer or they will want you to be married to a filipina but going direct to the bank and establishing a great relationship with the manager works too. As in many places, you have to convince the bank you do not need the money and then they want to lend it to you.
