Forum Support Old55 Posted February 26, 2017 Forum Support Posted February 26, 2017 Another Jeepney good or bad topic. I hate them. HATE them! IMO any larger city should do away with them and encourage bus service public or private. Manila and Cebu City are gridlocked both places are screwed even if suddenly billions were available to expand roads it would not help much due to Jeepney's. If the government were to quickly reduce the number and regulate them it would be a huge step forward until bus service could be brought online. Much of this is the typical lack of order (Jeepney stops/pickup locations) and common sense. Towns and rural areas are well served by Jeepney service in most cases.
robert k Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I would have said commercial tricycles were the scourge. Some smaller towns relegate them to side streets only.

Many jeepney associations are owned/operated by syndicate of police, local govt officials and other two legged snakes. A recent post regarding jeepney and bus strikes in metro Manila will cause massive public transportation nightmare. The local govt wants to eliminate them inside metro. Unfortunately, you can't clean the stain that has been there for decades. And it stinks really bad......

They have behaved in a similar manner for the past 50 years. Every year, 300,000 new vehicles are added to Philippine streets. How many new roads do they build during the same time period? Blame poor government planing and economic prosperity.
Popular Post Dave Hounddriver Posted February 27, 2017 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2017 Having seen SO many Ceres busses "acting like" jeepneys here in Duma I think you would be disappointed if the jeeps were gone and replaced with busses. The reason is the busses are the KINGS of the road. The will stop every 50 meters or so to pick up or drop off a passenger (if required) and they do not give a crap for anyone else on the road. They will cut you off to pick someone up and if you dare to try to pass while they are stopped they will pull out and force you into the oncoming traffic unless you get out of their way quickly. Jeeps are small and under-powered compared to the busses. The only way busses would be an improvement is if they were forced to stop at designated bus stops and nowhere else. If jeepneys had to do the same they would not be a problem. Just build "pull offs" every quarter mile where the Public Utility Busses (jeeps or bussees) must pick up and drop off and make the public learn to walk up to a quarter mile. Heck, I practice what I preach and walk at least 2 miles a day, usually more like 6 miles but I'm not saying everyone should do that.

Popular Post Tukaram (Tim) Posted February 27, 2017 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2017 I think buses and jeepneys should have designated stops. Here in Iloilo there are many places downtown that jeepneys cannot stop, the buses cannot go into downtown, and that helps. But I think the biggest problem on our roads is the abundance of private vehicles. Most I see have only 1 or 2 people in them, and they take up too much room. It would take 10 or 20 cars to replace each jeepney. I have only lived here for 4 years but have seen a massive influx of private vehicles and a huge increase in traffic problems. When our streets were mostly jeepneys and taxis we did not have this much problem. Lack of discipline in driving habits is a huge problem but that is more of a lack of enforcement issue.

I kind of agree. Everyone else should be forced to take public transportation, except me I mean how many foreigners have cars? Most? And we are as big a part of the problem as anyone else . . except those of us who walk 5 miles or more a day

Time to start a programme of 15 to 20 years old, off the road and on the scrap heap. Won't ever come I know But...........Wishful thinking here BTW, people write here that cost prohibits the Purchase of a car, I wonder How many Would. if they came into some cash? My reason as I stated in a previous Topic was a family need and not a family want otherwise I would have not bought JMHO and input Folk
