Best part of the news so far is that it is not associated with terrorist.  Martial Law invoked throughout the entire country would be devastating.

Indeed. Looks like it was a heist gone very bad.

My GF's friend who works there lost two good friends. Fortunately for her, it wasn't her shift.

But how often can we trust the news?  I think they are doing what the rest of us are doing and that is speculating without all the facts.  I heard from many news sources that it cannot be terrorism as the gunman shot in the air rather than shooting into the crowd.  So why can it not be terrorism gone wrong instead of a heist gone wrong.

I don't want to hear that it is terrorist activity either.  But I also don't went to be kept in the dark and fed Shite.  Nor do I want to see the authorities burying their collective heads in the sand and not seeing what is really going on.  What is really going on?  I don't know.  No one seems to.  So lets not say:  Botched heist, case closed.  At least not until that is a proven conclusion.

I look at it this way. By the looks of his rifle it was auto or semi auto assault type rifle. He only fired into the air, not at civilians. This is totally opposite of any of the world wide "lone wolf" attacks in recent months. That leads me to believe it was a robbery, if he had fired upon bystanders the body count would have been much higher.

What concerns me is that all of the civilian casualties were due to smoke inhalation. Either these people panicked and hid in a room and refused to leave and died in place or the safety precautions were very inadequate. (which I find hard to believe since this please is wide open with lots of doors)

I have been to Resort World many time. Just last week in fact. looking at the map posted in the newspaper I know the exact door this guy used, and the route he used to get to the casino (less than 100 meters from his point of access). I could go into more detail but don't want to bore folks

In all modesty Jack I really could. But in my experience once a foreigner opens his mouth a lot of times they take offense and think you are criticizing  and not just trying to help:571c66d400c8c_1(103):

 When these people (Authorities) can take Criticism, they may make better leaders in their Jobs. Of course I was really jesting at first But....................:571c66d400c8c_1(103):  They have already enlisted a Security expert? who seems to know very little

One news story which I read said that they were looking for a person of interest who is a Philippino. The news in the UK is biased depending on who that outlet has political ties with, the media here seem just to make things up.I take any news I read wit a pinch of salt.We will probably never know the true story.

It looks like the classic case of "amok" - a man (it's usually a man, but maybe women do it in different ways) finds himself in an intolerable position and becomes violent, eventually killing himself. The Manila bus siege was a similar case.

In neither case had the perpetrator thought things through clearly. The bus siege killer was a policeman who had been fired for corruption and who wanted his job back. Obviously, hijacking a bus full of tourists isnt going to get your job back. This chap had run up gambling losses and wanted to cash a lot of chips to clear his debts. Obviously you can't cash in chips that you have just stolen.

All very sad but a reminder that Filipino culture puts people under enormous stress.
