mogo51 Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 One of the best things I have experienced in my years in Asia, is the 'bum washer' and how they are far more hygenic than toilet paper IMO. I have seen them in hotels in Philippines, so assume they are available in hardware stores (including the fittings). Can someone confirm please, don't want to go back to the 'western system'. Otherwise, I will have to byo! Sorry, hope you have all had your breakfast before reading this.
OnMyWay Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Sure, that is all available. I have one here that I have not installed yet. You just put a splitter on your toilet water valve and attach the bidet hose holder on the wall next to the toilet. Or you can also find the fancy type built into the toilet seat. s

I have not seen the really great ones in hotels here, such as I experienced in South Korea. That experience spoiled me so I had to have something like that here and so: Here is my experience. I put a splitter on the hose coming from the hot side of my shower water heater and hooked up a makeshift "bum gun". It worked, somewhat. The water temperature was always set to my liking and I basically just gave my undercarriage a little shower. The problem was: not enough water pressure to do a good cleaning and once that area is wet, tissue does a poor job of finishing up. The solution would be to put in a pressure pump. Better shower pressure to both areas. I have the pump but I hesitate to install it. Anything I touch that has to do with plumbing will eventually leak. Dave's law I suppose.

jpbago Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 There are different hose sprayers too. I find that the shower type gives too much water. There is one designed for the toilet that is easier to control.
robert k Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I had decent pressure and about a 10 foot hose on my shower head and it would reach the toilet. It was handy cleaning the bathroom too just spray a little bleach around and hose it down with the shower head. I do not like the water method in public bathrooms as I used to be part of public health in a small way. Poop water gets on the floor where people walk on it and track it out of the CR. Unless I'm really in a hurry I take my pants completely off so they don't touch the floor and soak up the water and many stalls don't have a hook. luckily I'm fairly regular and do my business at home for the most part.

So the bottom (really) line is I can get them there, no need to bring with me. I will try and work from there.

Popular Post AlwaysRt Posted June 12, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 12, 2017 I have lived long enough in enough countries that this is common you would think I had this figured out but I remain confused. 1)How is this method more hygienic? For example, I do not know anyone who washes their hands by simply turning on the faucet and sticking their hand under the water for a bit and done. Always a bit of rubbing, commonly with soap, then rinse. followed by.... 2)How do you keep your clothes dry to begin with, not to mention the 'target' of what you were spraying. Especially when there is no paper of any kind in the facility? *I often joke about things, oddly enough I am serious this time even though there is plenty of opportunity for humor in this topic once you get to the bottom of things.

Especially when there is no paper of any kind in the facility? Let me ask you to perform a simple test. After the North American way or wiping with tissue, go back in the toilet an hour later and give it a wipe. Any residue? Or did you get it all the first time? Now try the same experiment using a good bum gun. Its like washing your car. Are you gonna get it cleaner with a pressure washer (not too much pressure ) or wiping it with a dry tissue? Now about your hands; When you use tissue only, have you ever got a little on ya (surely you have as we all do from time to time). So you better give your hands a good wash with soap. But with a bum gun its like washing your car. No need to touch it, the water pressure does the work, then you can dry it with some tissue if you like or use your judgement here. You may get your hands a tad wet doing this so wash as if you had used tissue only. To keep everything else dry when using your bum gun, seat yourself as far forward as you can so that your skin is right up against the toilet seat, then spray from behind and water only goes where it is supposed to. It does not go all over the place like it does when a filipina uses one while squatting on the seat. And that is what works for me. If no paper is available and I am not packing my own (seldom happens as I always carry) then I just sit there a sec until most of the water has drip dried and then up my pants and leave. Your underwear will be damp but no more so than if you just went for a walk in the heat and sweated up a bit. It won't go through to your trousers. VERY sorry to those who see this as too much information but Steve seemed to legitimately want to know
