Mark Berkowitz Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I’ve only been in the PH for over two years but I’m starting to grow an ‘Onion Skin.’ As we all know, Filipinos are famous for being onion-skinned or easily slighted at perceived insults. While it’s perfectly normal for Filipinos to taunt and criticize others, Filipinos can’t handle the same when it’s being hurled back at them. balat-sibuyas adj. 1. easily hurt; sensitive to criticism; 2. smooth (ref. to skin) Have any other Expats had this experience?

Gratefuled Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Do Expats Develop an Onion Skin? Some do. Speaking from experience here.

AlwaysRt Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I don't know, from the amount of crying and complaining sometimes, I think many expats come pre-installed with an onion skin...

I try to have the greatest care of not damaging the onion skin of sensitive people but I am not always successful. I do enjoy their comments as they have "a peel".
Gratefuled Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 While we are on the subject of thin skin. I think that if someone says something that one does not agree with he has the right to respond. That is not onion skin. We cannot agree to everything another says and it's not "pissing on their parade".

sonjack2847 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 People with thin skins. I was in a pub(a rare occurrence) in the UK and three of us were talking. My friend KM was doing every girl in sight and bragging about it..My friend PP said well wait till my sons get older your daughter will have to watch out. Nothing untoward I thought just a bit of fun.KM went ballistic, I said to him you can hardly stand here bragging and when somebody makes a comment like that go ballistic. He used to make fun of everybody but could not take comments about himself or his. On any forum it is easy to be misunderstood and get under someones skin as most of us don`t know each other in the flesh.
