Online Horse Races

I was going to add this to online poker posts but since it is quite different, I will start this new topic.

Anyone into betting the horses online?

I have been betting on the horses for years like before casinos and lotteries became so big but now I do it online. Once a year I will dress up like a cowboy and go to a feature race in Toronto like the Queen's Plate. There are more than 100 tracks from around the world in different time zones on the site that I use, HPI, and there must be many more sites from different countries. Of all the tracks, I like both tracks in Hong Kong the best, Sha Tin and Happy Valley. Japan would be next. The pays on the exotic bets can be very large, perhaps since the crackdown on Chinese going to Macau, more money is going to the horses in HK so the pools can be large. You can bet from $.20 up to the sky. The comments on online poker were that it may be rigged as compared to live but with the horses, it is live. You can watch it live. I have ridden an ex thoroughbred race horse and he wanted to win everytime.

Nope, never gambled online any game but I have played the races at casinos back home.

I have a friend who got me interested in horse racing back in LA. Back then, no races on Sunday so we would go to Tijuana Mexico. I learned a lot about horse racing but I learned more about gambling.

I'll play a friendly game of Poker, Black Jack or Craps among friends but never at a casino.

I would love to learn Mah Jong and play for fun but not for money.

I enjoy betting the ponies but havnt been able to play online from where I am in the US. Not sure if youve heard of William Bentor but an interesting story . Would be interested to learn more if your a winning player on what the most important factors are for winning.. I know the tote board changes in the odds account for almost half.

I am a big racehorse fan, I bet on Australian races.  Here in Pattaya, I can stream the races and have an Aussie Tab account.  It gives me something to do during the day here.  I subscribe to a tipping website that is quite good.  Whilst I haven't yet got it all right, I have managed to have a lot of fun over the past 8 months on $600AU and still have $300 of that as credit in my account, so actual cost $300 - only since i started using this betting service. Quite cheap really.

I wish that I could input the stats into a program for betting on the horses but instead, I use the statistics that are available along with some reasoning. I note the jockey stats, the owner stats, and the trainer stats making lists of the top 10, by now I have it memorized for Hong Kong. The reasoning is that an owner chooses the best jockey and trainer that money can buy. Jockeys want to win all the time so a good jockey chooses the horses that he/she will ride no matter how much they will get paid. A good jockey can make a good horse out of one that is not by studying that horses habits, like start fast/slow, finish all out, stay on the rail or not, etc. So then I put all that together and box 1, 3, and 5. Looks like you would bet on 7.

No, just kidding. Betting only the favorites does not win much and does not always win so I take 2 of the top stats and put some other horses in a triactor or superfecta box. There are 2 jockeys at HK that win 30% and place 60% of the time. HK is on Wed night and Sundays. As BB says, HK has the largest betting pools in the world. I have had some good wins, like $1500 and $1300 on a $6 box.

Did you try to open an account with HPI? Americans do get around the system to play online poker.

Always bet the 7.. Yes ive noticed about the jockeys and trainers winning percentages.. I made a program using those and did better than usual but still not profitable.. I think  Benter had over 100 different stats he drew on and then would weigh each with a percentage of how important they were to winning.. Do they have a form or free past performaces for hong kong or australian horses?? Ill look into HPI I guess ill have to wait till im back in america to bet again unless I can find some poker around cebu.. Good luck on your bets

My father was a professional jockey who sadly got my two older brothers into betting on the horses purely by accident. My father would sit with the racing pages open and study it then mark out the possible winners. My older brothers were amazed at how accurate he was but due to his position he never bet himself. He always said there's no such a thing as a poor bookmaker and a fool and his money are easily parted.

Unfortunately my brothers thought it was all about the best jockey, horse and trainer. No amount of explaining it's got just as much to do with potential breeding, future use as a stud, ground under foot etc. They wouldn't listen and went on to be the typical gambler. Always telling you about the £1,000 they won but not the £2,000 they lost to get that win.

My father is out of the game now but he'd point out that x was speaking to y about the horse nearing the end of it's racing life. Or jockey x is two more losses from getting dropped. owner z needs money as he's in financial difficulties. Low and behold the jockey would be put on the horse which would go onto winning the next few races it was in before going out to stud and the owner who was in financial difficulties would have winning horses pulling up short. Horse racing is just about as fixed as wrestling.

No in get into enough trouble with the horses, without worrying about poker.  Not really interested in that.

I have been to the races in HK and it was one of the best days I ever had.  Picked up at the hotel, taken to the track, given racebook,, $5HK betting voucher (wow).  Then the food and the drinks flowed all day.  You would walk  out into the hall and either side was a long row of every food just about you could think of.  Free Champagne, Wine, Beer, Spirits cost then $90AU now it is $130AU, still a great value.

You are probably right, but like all the others, I still enjoy it.  Love watching horses race.

Just read the article about William Benter, very interesting.  I had a computer programme at one stage, but it was not very good.  Or maybe it was the user!
