Popular Post Dave Hounddriver Posted October 11, 2017 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2017 New York plot suspect to fight extradition from Philippines That is the headline and I've made it a link to the story. At first I was interested that the US had found a Philippine terrorist and I was curious at what their results of an extradition attempt would be Here are the first few paragraphs: Quote A Filipino doctor accused of wiring money for a foiled jihadist plot targeting New York's subway and Times Square rejects the allegations and has vowed to fight US extradition, his lawyer said Tuesday. Russell Salic and two others have been charged with involvement in the plan to stage the attacks in the name of the Islamic State group during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in 2016. On Tuesday, his lawyer said Salic, a 37-year-old Muslim orthopedic surgeon who trained at a government hospital in the southern Philippines, had no connection with terrorist activities and groups. "He even said that he is mad at terrorist activities. He said that in Islam, terrorism is prohibited. He is a devout Muslim. He is praying five times a day," lawyer Dalomilang Parahiman told AFP. Now for the rest of the story: "Salic is accused of transferring $423 in May 2016 to the other suspects" WTF? OK he is an admitted Muslim. Ok he is the friend of some other Muslims who attempted some terrorist activity in the USA, but extraditing someone because he sent US $423 to his friends in the US is ludicrous. Haven't the US got any real terrorists left to go after? What about arresting the guy who supplied ammunition to the shooter in Las Vegas? Or maybe any friends who loaned him money with which he bought all those guns? Stories like this make me realize the world is slowly going i n s a n e . . . .

MikeB Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 The intent is relevant, the amount is not. The Filipino newspaper article left out a few things: "In May last year, Salic allegedly sent approximately $423 from the Philippines to an undercover FBI agent posing as an Islamic extremist to help fund the planned New York attacks. Salic, who allegedly was known to fellow extremists as "Abu Khalid" or "the doctor," also informed the undercover agent that he intended to continue sending money in support of the Islamic State group in the future, according to court documents made public in New York. Salic allegedly told the undercover agent that his ultimate goal was to join the Islamic State group in Syria but that "it would be a great pleasure if we can slaughter" people in New York, the documents said." People were arrested and charged with murder because people in authority were convinced they had the intent to commit murder and if not arrested before they did it then they surely would. You have valid points that the dude is a bad dude who may do what he says he is gonna do but it still seems to me that 54 minutes ago, MikeB said: the world is slowly going i n s a n e . . . . I dont want to go back to the Vegas shooting but Dave, the guy was a multi millionaire so no one lent him money to buy guns.
