Forum Support scott h Posted October 13, 2017 Forum Support Posted October 13, 2017 For my Australian friends. Next month we will be visiting the land of OZ. My question is where is the best place to get Aus dollars? The locals who visit say to get it here, but since they buy AUS dollars with pesos that might be their only option. I will be exchanging US dollars. Advise please?
mogo51 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 (edited) Obviously not at the airport Scott, I just realised that is a question I don't have any experience at, as it is always the reverse for me.I bring my Aussie $ over here and cash it at the local market. As US$ is very strong against Pesos, maybe the advise to get some here is sensible. Where are you going to go in Oz? Banks in Oz are notorious for poor conversion rates. but there are money changers in Oz just depends where you are going. Seems all too many times we read, I only use a PI bank for day to day expenses and have my Pension/Salary paid into my Home Bank and just transfer as and when. Just wondering?

I have one ATM card that will refund all of those fees, up to 10 times per month, so I would use that one (if I can remember the pin ). if I were in your shoes. My Capital One credit card has no foreign transaction fees and the exchange rate is always excellent. I used it almost exclusively for purchases in New Zealand. Hi Guys, Generally we do have accounts and transfer larger amounts between banks - but takes a few days and generally multiple banks (=multiple charges). Rates are OK. Western Union is same day / next day. (CASH ONLY), Same thing - rates still very acceptable as generally you would only transfer small amount of CASH. BPI has the ability to use OZ ATM - but needs to be setup before you come to visit. My wifey is visiting PH after Xmas, and that is her agenda. I do agree DO NOT airport money change facilities - rates are NEVER in your favour. Edited October 14, 2017 by Nutz2U2
bigpearl Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 As sonjack said, WU, we use to send smaller amounts to our accounts and the outlaws account and they work well, imagine it would be the same back to Oz from any country,,,,,,, one would hope. For larger amounts we use an online broker to secure a better rate (talking over 10K) but you need to set up an account and if a once off visit may not be worth it. Can, if you trust a relative in Oz direct transfer to their account, send yourself 500 bucks with WU or exchange with a broker in PH before you fly out? Enjoy the wedding scott and hope you get a chance to do a bit of sightseeing. Cheers, Steve.
