It's good to plan, you should do it. I'm reminded of an old Yiddish expression, " Man plans and God laughs".

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

Or ones heart and then reality kicks in.

very general lowest number would be about $1200 USD a month. For sure that’s my opinion others will differ

I have found that we can live comfortably for less than that Old55 but as rightly said, it is all about personal preferences.  Living in the provinces makes it easier cost wise.

I just sat through a 1 hour pod cast with Paula Pant interviewing Suze Orman on the F.I.R.E movement.  According to Orman, 2 million dollars is not enough to retire.  I can't believe the arrogance of this lady.

She is more than likely talking about in the US. If you retire at say 35yrs old there will not be much SS income, health insurance will be expensive, no income from a job. You will have to support yourself for maybe 50yrs. To maintain a decent lifestyle you need maybe $60,000 a year plus inflation, looking at $3,000,000 plus the earnings.

I don’t like her either but I think she may be right on this one.

If you listen to the pod cast, I think you would have a different opinion.
