bows00 Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Nothing is guaranteed in life but death and taxes. Just this past year, the proposed US budget attempted to eliminate cost of living increases to our Federal Pension. Yes, what you start off with does not increase and will be eaten up with inflation over time. Fortunately, the proposal was taken off the table, for now... In addition, US Federal employees that retire before the age of 62 receive a supplement to bridge the gap until we are eligible to receive social security. This supplement equates to around 75% of what you would receive in Social Security at 62. This benefit is currently under discussion to be eliminated as well. With continual changes in presidents and congress, who knows what laws will be in place 30 years from now...
