You should see what they put the holes on the doughnuts with.A lot of Asian restaurants have had closure notices in the UK because of hygiene.I always tell the locals "just because you can eat it like that does not mean I can".

In Seattle, we had a favorite teriyaki shop. I stopped in one day and the owner himself was working. I noticed he was wearing vinyl gloves while cooking. I thought that was a good sign until he came out, scratched his head, put my cash in the till, and got the containers ready for my takeaway order - all with the gloves still on!

Apparently, he thought just wearing the gloves met the letter of the hygiene law...

So, it happens all over.

Was just protecting his hands i guess. I know uncleanliness is every where. In the U.S. i saw an old beat up station wagon delivering donuts to a shop. The doughnuts were packed in a beer crate. Then there was a deli that serve fresh squeezed orange juice. The oranges was in a cardboard box on the floor. The helper took the oranges from the box and tossed them in the juicier, no wash. The whole orange rind and all.

I have mixed thoughts about this issue. Having gone into a lot of dirty bathrooms in the Philippines (and elsewhere) I have to wonder about the 1000+ people who touched the faucet/sink since the last time it was cleaned, the 1000+ people who touched the towel dispenser (OK, granted it's probably empty but we still touch it), and the 1000+ people who touch the door handle on the way out. While I still do wash the hands, frankly, I suspect my Johnson's cleaner than all of the above lol.

The Purple Helmet Warrior spends 95% of the time safely tucked away. Hands touch a wide variety of not-so-clean things. Draw your own conclusions.

My second visit to the Philippines I ate cooked food at a bus stop and 12 hours later at the hotel in Manila the night before my flight back to the US I had the hershey squirts so bad it cleaned me out in minutes. Didn't feel sick at all, no headache or stomach ache. Just cleaned me out. In over 2 years in the Philippines that only happened to me once.
