KC813 Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 (edited) Happened early Sunday morning, but I did not see this until now. Motive unknown. BACLAYON, Bohol — Unknown assailants shot dead a retired American soldier while he was jogging in Baclayon town, Bohol early Sunday morning Lonnie Simon Weig, 63, had two gunshot wounds in the head and another in the abdomen, according to Senior Insp. Raymond Halasan, chief of Baclayon Municipal Police Station. Weig was a retired United States Army soldier from South Dakota who opted to live in Purok 3 in Barangay Laya in Baclayon town. He had been living there for four years. He was married to a Filipino wife, Rose, with whom he had three children. Halasan said Weig went out for his morning jog past 5 a.m. on Sunday at Purok 7 in Barangay (Upper) Laya when shot. Halasan said it was not clear if the perpetrators rode a motorcycle. The crime scene, a rough road surrounded with trees, was at least 500 meters from the Weig’s house. He was probably shot at close range since neighbors didn’t hear the gunshot, according to Halasan. A neighbor, who asked not to be named, said that she heard motorcycles traversing in the place at dawn which was unusual on that time of the day. The motive of the weekend killing was still unknown. Police dispatch a tracker team to find the perpetrators. Halasan said Weig was described by his neighbor as a good man. The victim also had a good relationship with his family, he added. /atm http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/962349/retired-us-army-soldier-shot-dead-while-jogging-in-bohol Edited January 22, 2018 by Jollygoodfellow Added story

Well, I think the first person of interest would be his wife or girlfriend. But that sounds too logical in some of the ways how PNP investigates murder. They usually rely on local tsimis (gossip) to begin their investigation. Sad to hear another expat making the headlines in this manner. 1

Jollygoodfellow Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Obviously they wanted to make sure he was dead. Two shots to the head and one in the abdomen.
RBM Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 As stated previously sadly we shall never know the truth. One would never know if he unintentionally slighted some local whom days or months later hyped up on what ever sought his twisted revenge. Jealously, family, many factors, my bet would be financially motivation is behind this horrible despicable act, for certain paid hit men did it. 3
Kuya John Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 (edited) Pride is a terrible thing, the inability to forgive and forget, figures in a lot of incidences. We will never know what motivated this murder, one thing for sure sticks out, you never really know what people are thinking. No matter how much you try to be Mr Nice Guy you are dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. Deepest sympathy goes to his family......Lonnie Weig RIP Edited January 23, 2018 by Kuya John
Dave Hounddriver Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 (edited) 7 hours ago, Kuya John said: We will never know what motivated this murder This is where things are different here. There are reasons for the killings. I have not heard of "serial assassins" in Philippines. There do not seem to be random gang initiations where they have to go kill a foreigner. In fact every foreigner that I know has been assassinated here is killed for one of these reasons: Business dealings His money His wife/gf Possibly over drugs although I do not know of any drug murders involving foreigners That is a very short list to go through and find out what motivated this murder. EDIT: To make the list even shorter let us acknowledge that the man was jogging so had nothing on him that would make robbery a motive. By all reports he was a clean living sort so drugs are not a motive. Are we starting to see what motivated this murder or does someone have another realistic motive? sonjack2847 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Bohol PNP chief orders hastened probe on killing of retired US soldier January 22, 2018 Bohol Chronicle Daily 0 Comment Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) director Sr. Supt. Angeles Genorga on Monday ordered the hastened investigations into the killing of a 63-year-old retired US Army soldier in Baclayon. Baclayon police chief Sr. Insp. Raymond Halasan told dyRD Balita that Genorga formed a special investigation task group to look into the killing of Lonnie Weig less than 12 hours after the shooting incident. Weig was an American national who married a Boholana and lived in Baclayon. According to Halasan, Genorga personally inspected the crime scene at a secluded area in Barangay Upper Laya. The fatal shooting took place at around 5 a.m. on Sunday while the victim was jogging along a barangay road. Weig sustained one gunshot wound in his head and another in the body. According to Halasan, the gunman was likely riding a motorcycle for a quick getaway. Residents also told police that prior to the killing of Weig, they heard a motorcycle circling the area. However, authorities have yet to determine the number of suspects involved in the shooting while there were no bullet casings found in the crime scene. As investigations proceeded, police said that they are still facing a blank wall as to the identity of the gunman and the motive behind the murder. (A.
