Popular Post Gary D Posted February 27, 2018 Popular Post Posted February 27, 2018 The mother in law received a text say she had been sent 60,000 pesos from my wife by name giving a phone number to contact, no reference numbers etc. My wife does have a newish Remitly account but the MILs phone number is not attached to it. Luckily the MIL contacted the wife to ask why she had sent a large amount of money as we will be there in 3 weeks anyway. I suspect if the unwary were to use the phone number given someone would be asking for money to release the funds or bank account details etc. 4

Any idea how the scammers tied your MIL phone number to your wife's name? Did someone get that information from social media?

The scary bit is how they got the Mils phone number as she had changed her SIM a few weeks ago as she kept getting calls from the wifes phone when she hadn't phoned her.

I would take a long hard look at your wife's phone. Perhaps there is some spyware on it.
