StayAtHomeDad Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 I started a shipment today on ShippingCart as well. Mine came out to be almost $100 for sea cargo shipping. I thought that was not bad at all considering I ordered a "lot" of canned goods, including quite a few #10 cans (total about $400 worth). I think you can save a little money (as you suggested I think) by considering product sizing when ordering and maybe spacing orders out over a few days. If you order a long, thin item and then ship it with a tall item that is not as short and tall item, your fees will go up considerably (versus measuring them individually.) Nevertheless, I created an Excel sheet that lets me get pretty close in estimating the charges (as long as decent dimension info is available that is.) Now, if everything arrives undamaged that will really make it a deal. Don't know if I can wait for that, though, before placing another order. This shipment should arrive by 9/11 according to the ShoppingCart.com site. Once again, thanks for starting this thread I learned a lot from your posts and in the end was able to save some money because of them. Kudos.

It should be only 32 cubic inches! 23 minutes ago, JeSsDaDdY said: Nevertheless, I created an Excel sheet that lets me get pretty close in estimating the charges (as long as decent dimension info is available that is.) Yes, same here. At the very least you have to make sure Shipping Cart receives all your items, but I also calculate the dims and values. 23 minutes ago, JeSsDaDdY said: This shipment should arrive by 9/11 Same for mine! I don't have high expectations so if it is anywhere close, fine with me! 23 minutes ago, JeSsDaDdY said: Now, if everything arrives undamaged that will really make it a deal. I'm going to ship an external hard drive in the next shipment. Hope for the best! Edited July 29, 2018 by OnMyWay
StayAtHomeDad Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 Yeah, I am a pretty avid prepper and like to order #10 cans periodically for food storage. Have to rotate them kind of regularly, though, because of the heat and humidity. One day, I might construct some sort of root cellar type area. But, for now, just have to find good options for shipping from the U.S. I hope ShoppingCart will fill that need. We shall see.
OnMyWay Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 Another update... I got an e-mail today that my first shipment had shipped. I think it was Saturday their time when I said ship, and Tuesday when it shipped, Sea Cargo. Not bad. I may be having another lesson learned. My wife ordered some cheap costume jewelry for her and the kids. Most of it was only $2 - $10 on Amazon. At the last minute, I picked something else for her, earrings and necklace that totaled about $50. She was mad when she found out. So it arrived at shipping cart and now is flagged as "special handling". We did not know that in the restricted items list it says "Articles of unusual value, such as priceless art, jewelry (including watches and costume jewelry), collectibles, and antiques". So right now, I don't know what is going to happen. If I choose sea cargo, it still seems to let me ship them. I will have to wait and see. Another issue is that some of the items had really long shipping times and that was not apparent during the order process. I was able to cancel one but we have 2 pieces of jewelry, worth $3 each, arriving in late August or early September, far past when I will send my next shipment. I don't want to pay storage so I may tell Shipping Cart they can have them. The Shipping Cart warehouse is in Hayward California and has good coverage from Amazon. A lot of Amazon deliveries are covered by Amazon Logistics in this area. Yesterday I ordered a hard drive at 11:59 am their time, and I was offered free same day with my Prime membership. It arrived at 6:47 pm and is already in my cart! I have one more small item they have not processed yet, and then I will ship my second shipment, if the jewelry does not hold it up.
Dave Hounddriver Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 There are a lot of pages here and I may have to study your journey through Shipping Cart in more detail but here is what is on my mind at the moment. I would like a recliner chair. I want strong. I want large. I want quality. And most of all I want cheap. So far I have found that I can have any 3 of those 4 requirements but I want it all. So other forum members suggest buying a LaZyBoy in Philippines. Some say Don did it and was happy with the result. Well my preliminary research suggests it is about US$100 to ship a LZBoy from Manila to Dumaguete vs US$300 to have one shipped by ShippingCart all the way from California. There are a lot of sales in LA. I have friends there who may even be able to find a great used one and send it to ShippingCart for me. So the question becomes: Will Shipping Cart accept a used piece of furniture for shipment, namely one used LZBoy AND if they do will they box it if it is sent to them as a chair with no wrapping? I figure I can find something affordable this way. There are some great recliners on Craigslist or Ebay in LA area that I can get for under $500 so all 4 of my requirements will be met at a cost of less than US$800 (shipping included). Thoughts? I dont think you can use ShippingCart.com to ship a recliner. Furniture is on their list of prohibited items in the "Others" section. Also, if the chair (or it and its shipping box) weighs more than 75lbs or is more than 48" on one side, that would disqualify it as well. I just contacted them about a portable generator that I wanted to order that weighed 81lbs. There answer was a definitive "NO." There are no exceptions to the size and weight limits. Hope this helps. That is where I got the estimate of US$300 from. However, I did not notice any list of prohibited items so I will look further.

Yep, that just about eliminates all the items I had an interest in. But there's always canned goods. I think. Did you know you cannot send canned goods through the mail in Philippines? Just a bit of trivia but I tried to mail a Christmas gift some months ago and the post office would not accept the parcel. They open it, even if covered in Christmas wrapping paper, and then point to a sign saying canned food not allowed.
