I was actually escaping the island as they were installing a new high current line. There was about 20 guys dragging the new line which was suspended between 2 new poles. The new cable was resting on about 50 other cables, phone lines, old power cables etc. We had to swerve to miss the new cable which was dangling down over the main road. Initially I thought it was a rope until I got next to it. It was about 1 inch diameter. Health and Safety at it's best.

Oh I hear that.  No building sandcastles but the stray dogs are allowed to wander onto the sand for a shit.  Hmmmm.  Maybe that's why they don't want the kids playing in the sand?

On the other hand, casinos will be banned from the island.  I have been wondering about that.  Perhaps its one of those things where the dust has to settle before the Chinese Casinos can be built.

Just throwing this out there, see if it sticks. After reading a couple of articles in the paper and watching some interviews, I am beginning to think the long term plan is to turn Boracay into an exclusive, high money resort destination.  Saw in the paper today that during the soft opening that the locals are saying that it is the Boracay of old. Small crowds, clean water and beaches, low noise level over all a more "primitive" environment (by that I mean not so commercialized). The article reminded me of our first visit there in 98, I felt then that I was a reincarnated Robinson Caruso, I just loved it...……..not so much on our last visit in 2011.

Now looking forward as the plans that have been laid out. Limited number of tourist on island, limited access points. Stringent (so far) requirements to open. And even though the President put a halt to a large casino, he wont be president for ever. 

If they hold a hard line, and return to the Borakay of the 90s with international flights into katiklan it could be an exclusive high roller resort destination like they have in the Bahamas.

I was informed that Galaxy will be given a key role in the rejuvenating of Boracay long term and theri wish was to turn it into something like the Maldives.  Low density high value.  The also reiterated that they won't be building a huge casino, just a few dozen tables.  Now is 10 dozen a few or is it two dozen? Answers on the back of an unmarked $100 bill please.

I've been going to Boracay since 1987 when the Soap Opera "Boracay" was televised. That's what started it all. I usually go every few years and have seen the changes to what it has begun.

My thoughts are sunscreen/lotion should have been part of the ban. Hawaii & parts of Thailand have banned it because it is killing the Coral.

6,405 Tourists allowed to enter each day ("assuming" they only stay 2 or 3 days). Multiply that times 365 days per year is 2,337,825 which is more than the 2,001,974 tourists in 2017

There is a limit on hotel rooms per day but what about the 16, 526 residents who many rent out rooms attached to their house. 

It's certainly going to be interesting.
