My GF's uncle was dying of throat cancer, and he refused further help at the hospital and relied on a woman who cured everyone... Everyone but him. The superstitions and some of the practices are like medieval to me.

I just took the latest that I found first. Not sure if this one I found is correct, or yours is closer to the real age. http://www.geoba.se/population.php?page=2&pc=world&type=

The 2015 was 72.75. No way to tell which is right! That is the way the internet is sometimes!

Currently the average life expectancy for a male here in the Philippines is 73.52. There are several doctors with small offices (single room) here but no emergency services, with the closest "real" hospital about 2 1/2 hours away. I have been to see two of the local doctors and have found them both to be knowledgeable and caring physicians. However one now spends most of her time in Cebu City and comes to Moalboal late in the afternoons. I have seen her on several occasions when she practiced here in Moalboal and was impressed with her as a doctor despite the office. I still remember sitting in her office, my arm in a pillow on her lap, as she gave me an IV after being badly dehydrated with amoebic dysentery. There was a level of care and compassion that I had not witnessed with doctors in the USA. The other is a lady who works at a government clinic in the small town of Baldian, about 30 minutes away. She has a small office off her home here and is open from 5PM - 9PM each day and all day Saturday. Each of these doctors charge about 200-300 peso for a basic office visit and both have a fairly basic supply of antibiotics and other drugs. So good basic care is available here at reasonable prices, it is emergency care that is lacking and I do see that changing in the near future. The current reality is that if you have a heart attack in Moalboal, you will almost certainly die in Moalboal. When I do go I hope to be sitting on my deck, looking out over the water, and thinking how fortunate I am to be living out my final years here in the Philippines. 4
