Some people/Countries seem to prefer the other way around. I most def agree, it was lame, stupid and could add to the grief of law abiding expats.

Perhaps Host Countries, Airlines, Arrival Countries need to do a better job informing Tourists and encourage Tourists to seek advice on Expat sites such as this one prior to departure. 

Not everyone has common sense, street sense, or research before they arrive.

I recall years ago on the PI arrival cards they had "Death to Drug Traffickers" in bold. Perhaps they should do that again and add something similar such as "Jail for Foreigners in the presence of a minor" (with details). Then if one signs off on the arrival card they can't complain ignorance.

True but if this part is true then just no sense at all,

British national, 38-year-old Sebastian Lai Cole, was caught holding hands with a 14-year-old girl in Puerto del Sur Port in Barangay Liloan, Santander Thursday afternoon.

In a separate operation, 51-year-old American national, Charles Gergley, was arrested inside his apartment in Barangay Zapatera, Cebu City Wednesday.

It was a joint operation by the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), the Women and Children’s Protection Center (WCPC), and the non-government organization International Justice Mission (IJM).

Superintendent Romeo Perigo, WCPC chief, said a search warrant on Gergley resulted in the seizure of several gadgets containing pornographic materials.

Gergley’s victims are aged 14 to 16 years old.

Perigo said Gergley’s would visit depressed area giving candies to children and cajoling parents to get their trust.

 “Ang iya style is magbike-bike siya sa mga poor communities and manghatag candies sa mga batan-on and sa parents para maamigo niya, “he said.

WCPC rescued one of Gergley’s victims, a 16-year-old girl, in a follow-up operation on Thursday.

Gergley is facing charges for violating Sections 2 and 4 of RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The charges were filed yesterday.

Cops are also eyeing at filing of child abuse charges against Gergley.

PRO-7 Director, Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas said cases of child prostitution are not prevalent in the region despite the said arrests.

I based my comment on the original article indicating they caught him at the pier "in the presence" of a minor "only" and "employing" a minor.

I was unaware he was "Caught holding hands".

In that case, and the others you mentioned; any/all conduct beyond "in the presence of" and In accordance with the Laws should warrant arrest ado, investigate.

Sadly, the way the law is written here, your screwed even being in the company of a minor w/o a parent or adult unless you’re a family member. It’s not the airlines or anyone’s problem to warn of the laws of a country that people visit. As everyone has said and is well known in the US and elsewhere, ignorance of the law, and no defense… Dude straight fu**ed up and sadly or unsadly depending upon his motives, will be crucified for it.

I can’t say it enough, educate yourself before coming here.... This is a whole nother breed of animal then the Western world is  used to.

 

And yeah JGF, I missed the part about holding hands also. Did not see that in the original article. I guess he will say that she was guiding him across traffic… LOL

Did I read this correctly?  You cannot hangout with anyone ten (10) years of more your junior?  If so, then conservatively speaking, I could guess that over half the expats are guilty.
