Dave Hounddriver Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Solenoid? Cross the terminals with a screwdriver (while in neutral or park LOL) and see if it turns over.
Snowy79 Posted December 19, 2018 Author Posted December 19, 2018 Simple way to rule out a dodgy battery is to put the lights on then try turning over. If the lights dim it's your battery nine times out of ten. Older vehicles to have solenoid issues and if you can smack the starter with a hammer or extension bar sometimes that will work also as the carbon on the brushes sometimes clogs the springs when nearing their end of life. Had a 1994 Honda Accord about 4 years ago. Refused to start. My mechanic guy came over, took the starter apart, cleaned it and it was good as new. Was just dirty after all those years.
