The problem is that the two photos are of different things, the before is above the high tide  line and the after is with the tide out. I've said this before Corrigdador nets the beaches on the city side and take the collected rubbish by dump truck and puts it back in the sea on the other side of the island where it carrys on out to sea.

That might make the tourists happy. Probably 100 times that amount of garbage on the bottom of the bay! I read in the Star yesterday that they shut off the water supply to the Aristocrat Restaurant because their sewage was going directly into the bay. Once they move the informal settlers away from the bay area they will need to deal with all of the people that live next to the rivers that feed into the bay to stop treating the rivers as garbage dumpsters. That will take some doing!:bonk:

I don't have photos of it, but the Davao River shoreline looks equally bad at low tide. I have watched people on Samal Island actually wade out at high tide and shove the floating rubbish that has washed up on their property right back out to sea... And, like the Pasig River, there are squater "homes" right along the river - you know what all they are dumping. No wonder it looks like someone could walk on water of these rivers...

A really frightening thing L and I are astonished about is seeing young kids playing in these rivers - upstream from the squater settlements, but definitely downstream from a lot of rubbish and sewage dumping. Sure, they probably don't know any better, but it's still so sad to see.

I am just glad to see that at least some effort seems to be taking place. I guess when it gets so deep you can't see where you are walking on the beach that is maybe time to clean it up a bit?
