Here is something about the system in the U.S. It would be hard to get data from other countries but maybe they do from some. https://www.ssa.gov/privacy/pia/Death Alert Control and Update System.updted Sept 28.htm I suspect the cases of overseas "fraud after death" are much higher so they created this system.
Ram1957 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Everybody receiving Social Security should be required to fill out proof of life forms. The attached article will show the fraud that is committed when it comes to dead people collecting Social Security. No wonder the system is going broke! https://federalnewsnetwork.com/legislation/2018/02/its-about-time-agencies-stop-paying-dead-people-legislators-say/

From first hand experience I can tell you that when my late wife passed SSA was contacted directly by the funeral home we used. SSA did send her next month deposit but retracted it the next month. remember that you do not receive a check the month following death. Example if the die in March you will receive a check in April but they will rescind it at a future date. My wife died on May 15, 2017 we received a check in June and the money was taken back in July. It is strange that for SSA you must complete the whole month to collect benefits for that month. 1

Only one case of beer per day instead of the usual 2! I'm sure it will arrive soon. I printed extra dead or alive forms to send for the coming years just in case. Too bad they can't cross-reference with the IRS. I file income tax reports every year with my signature on it. That should prove to them that I'm still breathing. Update: Turns out that an idiotic dumbass forgot to put his SSN on the dead or alive form. The numbskull got an email from the Embassy yesterday informing him of this. So the dummy sent another form this a.m. At least he found a fax machine this time. This being Sat. Nobody will see it till Mon.

Now I'm wondering if my 2 kids get letters. I will wait a while for theirs and then send it all back express.

After I faxed them the signed dead or alive form, the money went into my account 3 days later. So they obviously do it electronically. The person at the US Embassy that I was communicating with via e-mail was very professional and cooperative. Hope this helps.

I agree with some previous responders here. I have my checks automatically deposited in an institution in USA. Then I just do wire transfers or hit the ATMs here for cash. This works so well, so far...

For example, both my UK banks charge around 25-50 gbp per electronic transfer. It would mount up if done regularly Edited July 4, 2019 by hk blues 1
