Robi Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Wow, looks like plumbing codes are pretty much non existent. Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur Dioxide sewer gases should be vented away from the interior. High concentrations are toxic. I keep forgetting the 3 basic things that plumbers must know: 1. Sh_t rolls downhill 2. The boss man is a SOB 3. Thanks for the info expats :) Sorry for the slow reply... Welcome to the forum, Matt! Be careful to not mix different chemicals with this, but you might try pouring simple white vinegar down the drain? It costs almost nothing and vinegar is just an amazing product. Or you can pour some baking soda into the drain and chase it with the vinegar - both help cut bad smells. Good luck!

I’ve been known to cover drains and tape them off, but this will be handy for shower drains when needing to run water down them. Most hardware stores sell a rubber round drain cover, same that many use in a sink. We use on our basement shower here in US that a DIY prior owner did not properly vent. It works wonders to keep smell out. Not an issue when water running, but if sits a day, the sewer smell becomes bad. 3
