Popular Post Eddie1 Posted April 7, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 7, 2019 Just after some info from members here, probably best suited to British members that have become a parent since visiting/moving here. I became a dad 7 weeks ago, 58 and a daddy for the first time, lol. What are the things that I should be doing? i.e. regarding obtaining British Citizenship for the baby or anything else formal that I should be doing ? 7 1
fillipino_wannabe Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Don't need to do anything, can get them a UK passport using the PH birth certificate. Can register the birth in the UK if you like but costs 150 quid and doesn't do anything. https://www.gov.uk/register-a-birth 2
graham59 Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 First thing I did for my son (3 years old now), was get him a British Passport. Registering his birth with the British Embassy is then not necessary anyway... so no need to pay two lots of fees to our greedy government. All details are on the Passport Office website (refer to Child born overseas). It can take as long as a year to process, while they fart about checking all the documents. Yes, really.

Forum Support Old55 Posted April 7, 2019 Forum Support Posted April 7, 2019 Eddie I don’t know about you but when I was a young man if someone had said I’d have a child while in my 50’s I would think them crazy. Look at us now!

graham59 Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 My first son was born when I was 43, and my second one when I was almost 64. Both with Filipina mothers.
hk blues Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Just to confirm pretty much what has been said - you can register the birth with the UK authorities if you wish but there is absolutely no need/benefit in doing so and it's expensive. You (or he) can apply for a British passport at any time so no desperate hurry to do anything now as you no doubt have your hands full! Belated congratulations!
