As to the US and Russian warships; I find it troubling that the world's most powerful nations (including more than just these two) are playing games which we used to call brinkmanship. It can lead to disasters such as the one where a Korean airliner was shot down in 1983 by the Russians. The Philippine government is courting all suitors, from China to the US to Russia, to Japan and Korea to see who will give them free stuff. That is a dangerous game, but so far still a war "game". Let's see what happens somewhere down the road. 5

I still get the chills whenever I fly over that part of Russia (Sakhalin) where the Korean airliner was shot down. Unfortunalely, the Delta route from Manila to Tokyo to the USA still flies over that spot, and I always get a huge sigh of relief whenever I leave Russian air apace. I hope that all of the issues that you mentioned are all sorted ASAP.

If a shootout starts, my bet goes with the USA, Israel, Japan, NATO, India alliance. No contest. This talk of a Russian/China alliance is them just knowing POTUS won't take any of their crap. Talking about Western alliances, this was tweeted by the UK defence journal and shows the French Aircraft Carrier Charles De Gaull, the Japanese Helicopter carrier Izumo, the Australian Submarine Collins and various escort ships in the Indo Pacific. Hopefully indicative of closer cooperation between western navies in the Pacific area. Edited June 10, 2019 by GeoffH

My first and only time that I "bent over" was a few years after we lost the Vietnam war. I was on the USS JOUETT CG-29, a bad ass missile cruiser, patrolling the waters off Cam Ranh Bay. At the time, it was the 2nd largest Russian naval base and that is where this beautiful Russian bomber flew out and "found" us. Of course, she was detected well over 250 miles from the battle group and was properly escorted in by a couple of Tom Cats. So we had time to muster on the starboard side and render our salute. I believe that Russian intelligence officer taking photos from the bubble window probably saw his first genuine "brown eye"......me! Too bad we can't do it now, with females on board warships these days. Edited June 10, 2019 by Jake
