Jack Peterson Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 Seems that the cost of Living bothers us (The foreigner) than it did then and maybe now, But Hey Look at what our people here had to contend with, We all knock them at times but they know a Bit about Survival don't know how they did it But...................
expatuk2014 Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 My wife tells me stories of how her family of 9 lived in a small Bamboo house ( she still has the photo ) and how her mother would make coffee using the same grounds until there was no more colour ! There was no power,no tap water and her siblings had to work after school on the Aunties farm ! It was only when the eldest brother started work and he helped the family, and his brothers that things began to improve for them! But my wife and her sister still do things the old way like sitting on small plastic stools washing clothes by hand while the washing machine stands there smiling ! 8.00 pesos for 24 botts of san miguel 2

Gary D Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 My first trip to the Philippines in 1995 the rate was 38 pesos to the £ and things were a lot cheaper than now. I think a bottle of Tanduay was something like 70 pesos.

Mark Berkowitz Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) If only I had one of those 'Back to the Future' cars I could jump back to 1965 with my US dollars (to buy some things) 1965 in the USA: Minimum Wage: $1.25 per Hour (or $10 per day) Cost of a new home: $21,500.00 Cost of a new car (Ford Mustang) $2,734.00* Cost of a first-class stamp: $0.05 Cost of a gallon of regular gas: $0.31 Cost of a dozen eggs: $0.53 Cost of a gallon of Milk: $0.95 Cost of a six-pack of Beer: $1.76 * In 1965, the sticker price of a new V-8 powered Ford Mustang coupe was $2,734.00 (the equivalent of $19,900 today). Hopefully, no one notices the dates on my US dollar bills (notes). Edited June 28, 2019 by Mark Berkowitz I forgot the beer - how could I do that?
