Mr Lee Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Anyone ever have a computer virus? Anyone know where someone could store files like these on a persons computer that could not be detected by the user/owner? This is really some scary stuff!Of all the sinister things that Internet viruses do, this might be the worst: They can make you an unsuspecting collector of child pornography.Heinous pictures and videos can be deposited on computers by viruses

Mik Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Child porn can land on a computer in a sick prank or an attempt to frame the PC's owner.Suppose you're a writer of news articles critical of the government, an opposition candidate, or you're an environmentalist, or some other type of political activist (not breaking any laws). The government may decide to curtail that vocal person, but how? Maybe by using the internet to infect the person's computer with child porn and then arresting them and ruining their reputation. I'm not paranoid, I simply don't trust government and only try to keep my eyes open..

Anyone know where someone could store files like these on a persons computer that could not be detected by the user/owner? This is really some scary stuff! Its usually done by creating a hidden partition on your hard drive. Sometimes it is encrypted, sometimes not. It doesn't show up when you look at your hard drive in Explorer and the amount of free space you see is not impacted. Most people discover they've been hacked because their hard drive runs out of space but Explorer still shows plenty of free space. This method is also used frequently by people offering pirated software or media. They just stick the movie file on someone else's computer so they aren't caught with it.There are some methods you can use to hide the contents of your hard drive from routine inspection. A good method of doing it is at http://www.truecrypt.org/hiddenvolume Edited November 14, 2009 by TheMason

I did a "Permissions repair" and found a item in the report that "has been modified and cannot be repaired"... I did a google and found this -- "hidden" program may be "Detected" by Malware ... which knows where to find it????Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.I have deleted it with no adverse effects.! I do not use Remote Management.APPLE website states "You can safely ignore this error message" O Yah?. "ARDAgent" don't like the sound of that. GONE--Bye-BYE.Tom Edited February 10, 2010 by Singers
