When you go to the BIR and pay the money for the extension, the next 29 days starts from the day you get the extension and not the expiry date that has been stamped on your arrival.

You had a different experience from me here in Davao.

Whenever I applied for extensions here over the course of three years, they always dated the newest extension beginning from the date of expiration of the previous one. I applied sometimes on a Thursday before the expiration date on the next Sunday (to avoid Friday rush) with no problem. I asked before I made my extension to be sure whether that would really happen.

However, this could be subjective as has already been discussed with some people receiving different responses at different BI offices?

I just got an extension last week, it was dated from the expiration date of the previous period.

YMMV, this was at Cagayan De Oro.

Good Morning Tommy, yes I was taken aback when I received my new date of expiry, so I just thought another rule change, or a different rule added to the other rule because the other rule made sense, so introduce a new rule and catch the foreigner out.

I am  stickler for the rules of another country and as has been mentioned in other posts there is no use arguing with them.

So I will be starting a new post on my options.

As you can see from other replies this is definitely not normal.  If the extension does not start from the expiry date then point it out to them with a smile.  If that does not work then send pics to their Facebook messenger site.  It will get sorted.

EDIT BI is Immigration.  BIR is Bureau of Internal Revenue.  Yes, we regulars know what you mean, but what about the new guy who found us with a Google search?

Dave, thanks for the heads up, and these acronyms here really confuse me to say the least.

Yes, I will give that a go otherwise a trip to Bangkok could be on the cards, at least I can have a shower there.
