Arizona Kid Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 Poop in the water at Boracay and Filipinos get angry because foreigners are disrespecting their country. It's simply outrageous!! Meanwhile thousands if not millions of Filipinos discard their trash and poop into the countries rivers on a daily basis and think nothing of it. 3

Forum Support Tommy T. Posted August 16, 2019 Author Forum Support Posted August 16, 2019 A followup article to the original story... Hmmm the righteous indignation! Malacañang on Thursday asked tourists to follow rules as it slammed the action of a foreign tourist who allegedly let her child defecate near the shoreline of world-famous Boracay island. Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said they would advise foreigners to comply with local rules and regulations in light of the incident. On Tuesday, a video of a tourist washing the buttocks of a child by the beach went viral. Their companion was seen burying what was believed to be the kid's soiled underwear. This prompted the government to close a portion of Boracay’s shoreline for a cleanup. “It’s offensive to the sight. It’s not a good scene,” Panelo said at a news conference. “They have to follow rules and that obviously is a violation, so they will be subject to administrative or rather suits,” he added, referring to the foreign tourists concerned. Panelo also called for the deployment of portable toilets to service tourists in the island. “Parang wala ka ring puntahan kung nandoon ka sa beach. Kailangan siguro mayroong mga portable restroom there, kailangan din tulungan din natin iyong mga turista natin,” he said. The Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group has appealed to the public to cooperate in maintaining the cleanliness of the island, which was closed to tourists for six months last year to give way to rehabilitation works after President Rodrigo Duterte called it a "cesspool." — RSJ, GMA News

Of course it was not the tourists who turned Boracay into a "cesspool". Turning a buried dirty diaper on a public beach , that has no portable toilets, into an international incident sounds like a mistakes on the part of the tourist as well as the Rehabilitation Management Group.

One wonders how it took them so long to come up with that idea. It is the only common sense in the whole fiasco. 1

To be fair, the Philippines is not the only place guilty of not providing public toilets at beaches. Oftentimes when at the beach, popping into a McDonalds seems to be the only option!
