gery0x Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 Very nice report Tommy, thanks for that! 10 hours ago, Tommy T. said: Overhead electric roughing in for lights and fans. Please make sure that you have a very capable electrician when it comes to wiring!! The (prepared) installation in the picture looks good to me so far, but you must make sure that they do the wiring properly, e.g. luster terminals instead of insulating tape, and so on. Also cable diameters and circuit breakers should best be calculated by yourself. I'm saying all this because some time ago when I built an adjacent room to my house I had to remove ALL the wiring and do it again by myself

Thanks for the good suggestion, gery0x! I will be sure to do that. The wiring is all speced out on one of the blueprints right down to which circuit goes where, sizes and capacities of breakers too. I will make it a point to follow that up to make sure reality matches plans.

I have that, HK... Many years experience with home and yacht wiring... Probably much more than many so-called electricians here in Philippines...? Forum Support Popular Post Tommy T. Posted January 18, 2020 Author Forum Support Popular Post Posted January 18, 2020 (edited) Another visit to the home site this morning and it was a busy one. We first arrived and took a long look around at progress - a couple of walls done except for the plastering and some electric outlet boxes and wiring to install. The file (layer) quality - as promised last week by the foreman - is better and neater than before. More wiring has been roughed in and @gery0x, I followed through and checked wire gauges and they looked good. They are so-called "standard" and, although I did not actually measure them, I reckon they looked fairly stout, especially considering they will carry 220 volts. The electrician arrived and I went around with him and we discussed more outlet locations for power, cable, CCTV, switches and light design. We reconfigured many of the window sizes because the specced ones mostly look too big for the house. Some needed to be moved also to allow for post locations and other concerns. But this is the easy time to do this and requires very few changes to the openings in the walls. The foreman held up some of the work so we could verify size and location of the windows. He is very accommodating and we feel lucky to have him in charge. The window guy showed up and so did the kitchen cabinet guy. We need to find a kitchen sink so the cabinet guy can configure the counter top. We also need to find an oven to fit the planned space. The southeast corner where the dining area will be downstairs and the extra bedroom upstairs. South perspective looking into the dining room and the small window that will be over the stove top. Looking into the kitchen and dining area. It was good that the cabinet guy was there because he noticed that the window for over the stove was not in the right location. It needs to move to the right about 1/2 meter. The outside of the downstairs CR with the living room behind it on the right. Talk about the proverbial brick s***house! With the solid wood doors, it will be a very private and quiet place to meditate. The house looks so different now that we can go inside and look around with imaginations running wild. It is so much better to see how things look and fit - so much better than looking at renderings and plans. We are very pleased and the workers, foreman and contractor are happy that we are pleased... Then the contractor handed me the next billing statement.... Oooooffff! No surprises, just the next step... So I will get out the WD40 and struggle to get my wallet open again next week... Do you plan to use only that window for letting out the heat/smoke/smell from the stove or will you also have a range hood?
