Is it any surprise with the amount of Knocking they get especially on Forums and Topics like this one, mainly from foreigners. One wonders what we would say if these people came into our country and spoke to us like we do here or even tried to change us, Let's think on a little G &G's

I think we may be playing nice, but not playing to their advantage, if we patronise the Filipinos for all their defects and problems.

The state of this society and economy is what it is because of a lack of critical spirit.

You're from England, Jack. You probably remember well the massive collective uproar a few years ago, around the discovery that a few MPs expensed their 50p muffins on the taxpayer or got undue subsidies on their London abodes. That's the sign of a healthy society, the antibodies that create awareness, and plant the seeds for a sensible improvement.

I am sorry if I get to play the forum b*tch, but it bears repeating: certain Filipinos who have seen the world and came back to tell the story know that so many things in this painfully beautiful country can be improved only when people wake up and say "no more". Then even foreigners who come here to find peace and happiness will benefit.

So I was a bit shocked to see the latest invoice of just over 3k for a month. And we have been using a fair amount of electric for water heating in showers and kitchen sink. And, of course, the air/con in the bedroom running down to 16 degrees at night and sometimes running the air/con in the living room or office too for L's school seminars or just because it felt too damn hot!.

So, the point I am making here now is that the inverter, split/type air/con units seem to be making a big difference in our energy usage. Sure...some of this could be the location and design of our home - in an orchard area with shade early and late and good awnings too? - but anyway, we are delighted with our energy bill...so far. The water bill is a bit higher, but then we are rinsing down the driveway and car (no need to wash since the road is so muddy) and doing lots of laundry...

Life is good!

The biggest difference is actually between non-inverter and inverter units. We had 2 split non-inverter types replaced with split inverter types about 6 weeks ago and our bill is around 1,200 less, for more or less the same temperature/comfort.

If you bought inverter type units, you can expect to run the units for longer, though, as the cool air flow is more gentle and will take longer to refresh the room to the desired temperature. Don't be afraid to let the unit run for 6-8 hours continuously. I usually let them run at moderate (2/4 notches) speed for about 4 hours, then I set the "quiet" mode to keep the temperature stable and get the added benefit of lowering the noise floor.

I appreciate all of the posts regarding productivity and value and commitment of the various vendors and member's experiences.

L and I are just very pleased to have gotten the value out of our build here and to have a decent and comfortable place we can call home. No.... it's a long way from perfect and also, in perspective, a long way from ideal and even competent depending on your viewpoint. But it will work for us and we will deal with it and make it the best we can... what more can you do?

I am pleased to report that I received my latest electric power bill...

Pleased, you say? Yes... When we were living in the apartment and using mostly only the bedroom window air/con unit and a bit of electric heat and, of course, the lights... we were often paying 4.5-5k+/month.

I'm not too surprised Tom.  They claim up to 80% savings compared to non-invertor - throw in environmental differences i.e. location and sun's position etc etc.

Regardless, a pleasant surprise for you and all the more pocket money for your Tanduay and San Migs!

All I know is that the split/inverter units are wonderful!

HK... I think you and maybe some others prepared me for this, but now I have experienced it. I am sold! Between the sound lessening and so subtle and the efficiency... I am a believer!

Of course, there is, what I already mentioned, the improved cooling of the new home between tree shade and awnings, etc... The units run so quietly compared to the window units... I am so delighted with the cooling and the cost... win, win!!!

Yep.  We have the same brand as you (Panasonic) and I was slightly concerned at first that there wasn't that chilling blast of cold air but in time I've realised they are much more subtle in their cooling style and yes, are so much quieter than window units.  I will say, though, that I find the external units a tad noisier than my neighbours Samsung but it's outside and not bothering anyone so no big deal.

We have no complaints at all. Your recommendation, along with my online research, really pointed the way that they were the best value and quality for the money... Well... two months into it and and they are perfect, so far!

Yeah... the external unit for the master bedroom is a bit noisy when we are sitting in the living room below...but that is why God invented TV and sound bars....it really is not at all distracting...

I just love that they cool with high fan initially, then gradually settle down to a slow fan to the point that we virtually don't notice them....Way COOL!!!

Thanks, Jack... that is a concern. The installer suggested that I clean the filters monthly.

What is really "cool" is that the amount of soot and dirt in the air here, outside of the city proper is so much less than in the city.... My God! When in the city proper, I could run my finger on a horizontal surface after one week of cleaning and it would turn up black... Not so far here...

But your advice is well taken and the air/con installer suggested exactly what you said - clean the filters monthly.

Thanks for the reminder
