I brought a mountain of hand tools here on my yacht. However, I will be needing some power tools soon... So where to buy besides Ace, Handyman or Citi?

Do you have a Wilcon branch in Davao? They seem to have a good range of power tools.

Back in 1968, my parents gave me an incredible gift - a Sears Craftsman tool set! I still have all of it - including the corroding steel box. And have added many tools to that collection...mostly metric additions and specialty tools...

In my opinion, there are no better hand tools than Craftsman... and they are guaranteed for life....although, since Sears is failing as a company, I don't know if that guaranty was for my life or theirs? A few years ago I walked into a Sears store in Seattle - no receipt in hand - showed them a corroded, rusty and beat up screwdriver... They accepted it and gave me a brand new one, no questions asked. Where else in the world is there a guarantee like that?

But when I worked as a mechanic during summers for a few years, the name SnapOn was the real deal. A SnapOn retailer would stop by every few months to sell some tools and they were even better quality than Craftsman! I don't know about warranty or guarantee with them, but I am guessing it is also lifetime? But then... where to go in Philippines or other out-of-the-way places?

So, for me, I just buy top-of-the-line quality tools when I need them and reckon (and hope - yes, Jack, hope!) that they will outlast me.

L and I have a working student and I lecture him repeatedly about taking care of tools - proper use, cleaning and storage... He seems to be learning. I will also buy a "Skillsaw" or equivalent for the home building project, since they (the contractors) only have a jig saw. It might be a waste of money but, for about US$100 or so, I think it might be a good investment for them to use to do straight cuts on cabinetry and so forth? I will let you know... I will want the Skillsaw for my own projects too, later. I hope they don't destroy it... But they seem trustworthy...

Yeah... there is a Wilcon here - I love that store! But I see that Citi also carries power and hand tools but have not compared yet.

Even Handyman and Ace carry some quality tools - Stanley, for instance... but, again, I have not compared...

You can find Makita and Bosch on there Tommy. Shopee also has power tools. I saw a Dewalt angle grinder on there the other day. Makita, Milwaukee, etc. Are on there as well.

Excellent!! I will need a Skillsaw, Sawsall and probably an angle grinder too in the near future. I like Milwaukee, Makita and Dewalt, especially. I find Bosch to be overpriced...just my opinion...

I still have my trusty Milwaukee drill that is almost as powerful as a drill press - it will break your wrist if you don't hold it right. I need to get a bigger transformer for it, though, since it is 110 volt and many amps!

The nice thing about the cheap knock-off Makitas from China is, when they break you can also buy cheap knock off parts for them . .  online from China.

Good thought and reminder, Dave! Salamat Po!
