Teaching her to drive does have it's upsides, you don't have to take her shopping, no more family taxi, and you can drink out.

What you have told us about your travel plans I would say no way to buying a car. You will have 2 sat there for months on end and still paying all the costs which go with it.

We have just downsized to one car as I can't justify having two cars stood up for 7-8 months of the year.

Thanks boys , lots of great advice , still not thinking of driving lessons or buying her a car at all, by the way as a back seat driver she is , the gaps and let’s park there and what are these stupid people doing I would not get in a car with her unless blind folded.

I wonder what new items the next friends house we visit will have , dentist braces , cars so far,it may be  better to become a recluse .

To me as an outsider looking in to all your posts it's like this.

She was not ready to give up her job and retire but it was your doing.

Now you both  are in each others face where before time apart as you both worked.

So yes since her life was thrown under the truck then for her something like new experience or adventure.

Good luck and If I was you I would be carefull of the savings.

Sorry if I sound harsh but its a two way street and I can only judge by posts but nothing to do with me.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something, or just naive at this.  Mine grew up with nothing, with not much hope of a better life until we met.  I try to encourage her hopes and dreams, and then we set about to achieve them one by one.  Of course she wants to drive, wants to travel, wants to learn to ride a bike, wants to learn to bake cakes, etc.  I've explained that we are planning these things together, and things happen on a budget.  And I've learned that her wants can be fleeting, or cyclical.  So we prioritize them.  She bugs me about learning to drive :  fine, we have a 5-speed stick with broken aircon, lets go.  Later after we build a house, we can talk about her own car, but she understands this is going to take time.  She's thrilled as hell about getting braces; not just braces but invis-aligns (sp?).  My idea not hers.  I guess if I thought she was being demanding I may feel differently, but she is as grateful as can be for every little thing.

I bought my first Filipina Mrs this little Mini (automatic) to learn in,  back in the UK, as well as loads of driving lessons.  It was one of the few cars in which she could reach the pedals. lol 

I don't think she's passed her test YET ...many years later.  Would have been better spending it on that boob job she wanted.

Even having passed her test 15 years ago she always make me drive when we travel together, she says I make her nerv if she drives.
